changing interior lights causes error?
Hi AM owners, for those who have changed out the interior lights to the white LED lights, have you noticed any error?
I recently noticed "adaptive headlight malfunction" error message pop up on my X5 which is 1 year old. I took it to BMW and after diagnosing it for 3 days, they said it was because I changed the interior lights that caused a short. I explained that I have never heard of a lower drawing unit causing a wire short but the warranty claim was denied by BMW. I think that is BS but they won't fix the module. Want $967 for parts and labor, assuming it isn't the step motors that died.
For those who have tinkered with interior LED bulbs, any issues or comments on my situation? BMW is just being shady and don't want to pay.

My interior lights were swapped for LEDs a long time ago. The thread often used as a how-to guide was done by a guy named Mike. I bought the car from him. Neither of us have had any issues at all.
Aside from AM: I recently added HIDs to my 4Runner. They came with optional "warning light cancellers" that prevent the vehicle from giving warning lights due to the added HIDs (kit added bulbs, ballasts, etc). I had a bunch of problems with the new kits - mainly, I kept blowing fuses. After some back and forth and testing, it turned out to be the cancellers that were causing the blown fuses. I removed the cancellers and now everything is fine. Turns out I didn't need them, and that having them was actually causing problems (only one side did it, so it might have been faulty).
Dunno if that helps, but maybe something in there resonates with your problem.

Thanks Telum. Their claim is that anytime oem parts are changed, even something like interior lights, it voids the warranty.
Was wondering if folks here had any similar issues. I guess when I buy my AM, I will leave it stock.

I replaced the interior lights with LEDs on my Aston with no ill effects. That being said, I can believe in some cars this can cause a problem since LEDs (without getting too technical) do not work the same in an electrical circuit as a regular incandescent bulb. Usually, however, there is no permanent damage and you can verify if the LEDs are the source of your problem by switching back to the standard bulbs.

Rubbish... Change back to the OEM lamps, and take the car in for warranty repair. Secondly, LED lamps shouldn't have such a high current draw so as to cause electrical problems.
The dealer is suspect. Get in touch with your regional rep to get this fixed.

They claim that any change in voltage, no matter lower or higher, would cause the modules issues. In this case, the frm module was fried. They won't pay for it. They claim the newer cars are very sensitive to changes in resistance.
Changed back to oem bulbs. "Adaptive headlight" error still there. They flagged it so even if I take it to another dealer, they know warranty claim was rejected. Bs!
