annoying door rattle -Fixed and squeaky fan belt fixed
I have had a very annoying rattle in my left door that becomes noticeable when driving on ruff tarr roads at speed.
I was helped by a member on this forum with details of how to remove the door panel (thank you sir) I opened the door panel and it was really not very difficult to remove, I shook the door and did my best to isolate the rattle experienced with ruff tarr at speed.
After exhausting attempts here is what i found, the speaker is mounted with 4 bolts (they were tight) and no obvious rattle however after tapping the speaker assembly with my for finger I found the tweeter to have a almost internal rattle? closer inspection revealed that the tweeter is on a plastic extension of the speaker Assembly, and that was rattling against the door frame, so loosening the bolts I layed in some foam rubber tape and re tightened the speaker bolts.. Rattle gone, and me and the vantage are now friends again!
Ok fan belt croaking is a noise that will make me go off my head, after not being able to get AM agents to replace the belt and upgrade pulley do to stock and work load issues.
I have looked at it and the noise comes from the outer side of the belt where it seems to glaze? and the squeak comes when the printed part of the belt runs over the tensioning pulley (outside side) this is the part they replace with the new belt (its slightly larger so the newer belt is a bit longer as well).
After looking at this thing and seeking you tube and other advise on remedies I decided to lubricate the outer side of the belt (not the grooved side) this I did with a small paint brush while the engine was idling I used fluid film it has no detrimental effect on the rubber belt, I used a 12 inch artist brush with a half inch head and dabbed it on few times being carefull not to mess in the engine bay - I used a bright torch to help and made contact with the belt &brush on the right hand side of the engine while looking at it. The noise is gone and I have covered 3000Km with no evidence of that annoying rattle and it saved a 300 Dollar belt pulley change, that i will have done when the car goes in for maintenance hope this helps other Vantage drivers who need a quick fix
