Installing Radar Detector below Mirror

As some might remember I have been working with a company to create a mirror mount for a radar detector for the Aston Martin Vantage.

I have completed the process and we have developed a mirror mount specifically for the Vantage.
If the mirror stems are the same I am sure this will fit other Aston Martins as well.
For those interested I have documented the process on my website at:

That's a perfect install and great write-up for a Valentine One !

For others... keep in mind though if you go with the passport instead.. it has GPS and needs a view of the sky. I had to keep mine on the windshield so the top had a sky view.

Thanks for posting!

Hey don't make fun, I can understand why someone would convince themselves it is still 2016.

Apologize, I cannot find the name of the person who sent me a private message saying that Blend Mount does not have a listing for the 2007 Vantage. The person went on to say that they called Blend Mount and they have no record or part number of a Blend-Mount system that I co-designed with them for my 2007 Vantage from April through July 2020.
Because that design and installation was documented on my website the person wanted to know if I could provide them with any pertinent information about what parts to order.
Below then is the information that I have.

The person at Blend Mount that I dealt with was Colin from customer service. Phone number 888-497-8388

The part number is BV1-2021 and I used power tap part number MT-1015.

There is a possibility that BV1-2021 was the starting point and the end result was a modification of BV1-2021. I do know that we exchanged multiple mount and parts to finalize the finished product.

A search of the Blend-Mount website does show a mount for the 2007 Vantage. Its part number BV1-2029 (pic below)

Hope this helps.

One final point. If your mirror is Home Link capable and has automatic dimming, a small part of the Blend Mount holder that we designed will block the mirror's sensor.
Rather than sent it back to Blend Mount I removed that part of the mount to clear the sensor. (The mount is aluminum and not difficult to modify)

@embdenb Thanks for your write up. I hardwired my Uniden R8 to the mirror with that as a reference. I found that the none of the 3 different styles of mirror tap cable prongs were able to fit in behind the wiring harness. Either they were too big or were too loose after I shaved down the prongs trying to get them sandwiched next to the existing harness wires. So, I ended up stripping the mirror wires and soldering inside the car. In my 2016, it seemed impossible to remove the wire harness and solder at the work bench, which would have been much much easier. After soldering, I taped and zip-tied for protection. One thing I was initially going to try was wiring the radar detector to the passenger map light so I could turn it on and off with the console button, but the map light only registered 7.5 volts and was not enough to power the detector. If I remember correctly, the mirror was putting out around 11.25 volts and works like a charm. The only insignificant/odd thing is that the mirror apparently turns off in reverse, so the detector briefly shuts off when backing up.
