Gentlemen,

I've had some recent advice that one can use a the 4.7 clutch in a 4.3 vehicle with just an ECU reprogram.

Are they definitely compatible? (they certainly look identical)

Can one use the old flywheel?

Are there any other caveats to watch out for?

The newer clutch is almost half the price versus the old one which would be great

Information you received from? Sure they look the same, and you could use an updated RE-flash...... but if it's not supported or compatible, is it worth it? Have you priced a Velocity kit? Who is going to fit the clutch?

I'm here to discover who has done this before and if they have any warnings or words of wisdom Then I'll make a call whether or not to go ahead.

Yes, I've priced a Velocity kit. Not for me at present.

The clutch will be fitted by an independent mechanic.

when i had my cluch replaced they were fitting a 4.7 clutch into a 06 Vantage, the dealer said its fine they do it all the time, they have to program the engine or do some software upgrade no matter what clutch apparently to do with vibration or knocking

dealer meaning the AM agent in SA

The reprogramming people keep mentioning... is that just the coast-down procedure for misfire correction?

Software update for sport shift cars if they haven't been updated. This was not an automatic update or service action. Tech had to know or if related repair was done. And when a sport shift clutch has been replaced it needs the clutch adaptions reset via AMDS. The newer software allows this option. Then the misfire corrections need to be cleared and relearned. (Coast down) as you stated.

So for non SS cars, there's just the misfire corrections to be cleared and relearned? I understood there was another error code the newer 4.7 clutch caused to flag?

I would seriously consider this: http://www.rsctuning.com/uprated-per...l-package.html

Thanks for the recommendations guys but funds are scarce at present. I'm treading water until my next project launch so ... I have to get the cheapest solution to last until then.

The AUD is currently 0.73 USD so those kits above are almost $5000 AUD. The Sterling is on 0.5 AUD or thereabouts so $1000 AUD for a 4.7 manual clutch kit. That's almost 5 times less ...

Next round ..

If all you need is this:

It's a lot cheaper than an entire clutch assembly.

Hi Telum, thanks for your reply.

Unfortunately I need a new clutch slave as well. Not to mention, what you've linked is still double the cost of the 4.7 kit. When I mentioned $ was tight, its tight.

Appreciate the advice though.

The discussion seems to be around the fact that the 4.7 clutch assembly is cheaper than the 4.3. Due to the slightly less torque of the 4.3 engine the friction surface of the clutch disk is probably different ( better) that the 4.7

Here's a thought! The 4.3 clutch assembly might be actually superior than the 4.7 ?

Consensus from what I've read so far is that the 4.7 clutch is "better" .. I read this as "more durable" .. I would love to hear from someone who knows for sure....
