'05 DB9 Linn all discs 'unreadable'... help!

Hi guys, so the stereo in the DB9 suddenly decided it couldn't read any of the discs currently inserted. Removed all, re-inserted. Nothing. Constant 'unreadable disc' message.

Apart from the usual Linn = Boat anchor comments, any suggestions please?

Am I just at the 'life of English cars electronics'? (I'm English and have a Range Rover too, so I should have learned my lesson by now...

Thanks,

K9

It's a Volvo CD unit. There are some threads on Pistonheads about repairing/replacing the CD changer.

Hi, I can't find those threads on Pistonheads, only upgrading. Could you help me with a link please?

Thanks,

I had this happen to me on my DB9 / Linn - it was fixed by running a CD head cleaner disc (wet) through a few times. Some gunk had got onto the laser lens.

Hopefully its that simple!

Thank Oliver. I tried a 'higher end' cleaning disc today, and the head unit gave me the same result.. I'll try another cleaner disc and see what I get. Thanks for taking the time to reply.

Ah K9, good luck.

PS make sure you wait for the alcohol to evaporate before trying an actual music disc

PPS dry, abrasive cleaners didn't work for me - I had to use an actual wet (isopropyl aclohol based) solution to dissolve whatever it was blocking the laser

Thanks very much for this, that helps a lot. Without being lazy (I did search and couldn't find an answer), if I have to replace the unit, does it require a dealer visit to code it in, or is it plug and play please?

Many thanks, K9
