Gremlin starting problems
Gremlin starting problems
I purchased an 06 db9 with 30k miles.Carfax was clean. From a trusted dealer (I have purchased a number of cars over the years from them with no problems) who stated that they had changed the battery. After about a year of fine driving I got all kind of weird dash messages. The engine started but with the weird messages. Purchased an Odyssey 1350 battery and replaced it using Telum's suggestions. Car starts no problem but still the weird messsages: limp home, no gear change possible, PATS error trans not conn., electric system service urgent, DSC TEMPORARY OFF, WITH ABS, BRAKE warning lights in the dash, all sequencing while engine is running. I have looked at the OM and this forum and cannot find an answer. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you
More info about your car? Is it a convertible? What transmission does it have?
Could be the CRM if it's a convertible, or wheel speed sensor, or a completely unrelated issue.
I've never used that battery before but a quick check on specs say it's a direct swap for the OEM.

It is a convertible, automatic transmission. The Odyssey battery (and I have no financial interest on this) is the battery recommended in the Porsche and Ferrari forums and I have a model of the Odyssey applicable to my Ferrari 360 and my Porsche 911 and I am very satisfied.
I remember seeing something on a convertible computer box that goes bad but have not been able to find it. Thank you again.
Thank you for taking the time to answer. I store my cars, when not in use, in a warehouse that I own, and it is a pretty clean place, but I have not checked the fuses under the hood. Will do so.
And yes my next stop is the AM dealer which is somewhat distant from my warehouse. I have information from another forum which I will also try and if it works, I will post it here, perhaps it may help others.
The computer for the convertible is the CRM (convertible roof module). Wheel speed sensors are also a likely issue since it's triggering transmission issues, too.

DB9 Volante will not start
I have not tried this out yet, but at another forum, for a 2004 that would not start that had the following symptoms most of which I have in my 06 DB9 Volante, there was an answer posted that I also reproduce below:
"My 2004 DB9 wont start.
When I turn the ignition on, the display shows a few messages...Key error...emission system service..... transmition fault service reqd.....Pats error key code not rec.......check battery off switch......DSC service reqd
When I hit the start button there is nothing not even a click.
The car has not been run for 8 weeks but the battery has been charged and is good and I have even tried a new battery but no change.
I have tried the battery reconnect button under the rear seat but no still good
Other weird happenings include...can only move seats forward, not back or recline....temp guage goes straight to 'H' and stays there showing red light. There was no service messages prior to this.
Is there a magic reset procedure ?"

In your case, it may be worth while trying the battery reconnect button which is located under the drivers side rear seat cusion.
Pull the seat cushion forward firmly and you should see a 10 pence piece size hole with a red or yellow button inside.Hold this button down for a few seconds and the battery will fully reconnect.
If you problem persist's try a reset as follows (suggested by Aston Martin)
Remove ignition key and lock car with fob. Leave for 5 mins. Open car with fob and press and hold down the battery reconnect button mentioned previously. With the button held down, turn on the ignition and hold the button down for a few more seconds. Turn off ignition, remove key and lock car with fob. Leave for 5 mins. Reset complete....according to Aston Martin"
The original person posting the first complaint posted the following solution:
"Problem solved, whilst being shipped, some clown has managed to loose the transponder which should be located inside the key.
The key slides apart with a firm pull and inside, there is a small cylindrical hole for the transponder to sit.
Without this transponder the car will disable the start function.
Found this out whilst fiddling with the key due to frustration at not being able too drive the dam thing.
Now need new key from Aston M."
In case it may help someone. Will try all of the above tomorrow and will report. 67427

First I tried the steps suggested in the other forum to reset the computer which I laid out in a previous posting, it did not work. Since my key does not have, as far as know and can see, an inner computer chip, it is a solid key, that was not the issue, as someone had pointed out in a similar set of symptoms for a 2004 Aston.
I then called the dealer and since the car would not shift into gear, the dealer personnel came to the warehouse where I keep this vehicle with a computer to replace it and see whether the problem was the computer, it was not. They then replaced the yellow button which connects the battery to the electrical system in the 06 DB Volante, and that was the problem. The Switch was no good. Since the car was then drivable, the dealership took it back with them to continue the checkup to perhaps determine what caused the switch to malfunction (I had changed the battery prior to all of these fault problems so I want to make sure that the switch is in fact the problem).
Two switches involved
The dealer just stated that it was in fact corroded and appears to have been shorted out when the battery was replaced.
