Quarter window issue.

I've done some research on this but didn't find anything. But anyways, my driver side rear quarter window no longer comes up after closing the top. Any ideas on whats going on?

Thank you in advance.

There is a protocol for re setting it in the manual. Also a sticky on piston heads forum as I recall http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/t...&f=70&t=964109

Hope that helps

I just replaced my regulator, be very careful doing it, as the service manual leaves some things out. It is not hard just time consuming, I did not document mine as I started doing it after work one day, but if you want I can give you a step by step or you can pay the dealership about $15-1900

Thank you for the response. I'm pretty much a diy'er, so a step by step would be very useful for me and any owners that may run into this issue in the future. Thank you very much.

Ok, here goes.

1) Put the car on a charger, because you will moving the front seat and top a couple of times (my driver seat lost its memory and it was a PIA to reset).
2) remove sill place, just a couple of screws.
3) Remove rear seat headrest, my was on tight so it took some force to get it off, there are 2 bolts that hold the seat back behind the headrest.
4) Bottom of the rear seat back there is a small panel, it just pulls off and there are to bolts behind it and now the back rest will come off.
5) remove the upper seatbelt holder, the bolt is I think 21 or 22mm.
6) remove the rear seatbelt connector ( you dont have to, but I found it made it easier.
7) There is a torx screw the holds the wind deflector holder, it is inside the holder.
8) Now for the fun part, this might not apply to you as I think 04-06 panels are different, mine is a 07.
Skip this section, if you you have an 04-06.
But there are 2 screws holding the 1/4 panel to the conv. top guide, look in the guide near the U part of the metal bracket (bracket is U shaped and made out of pot metal and is glued to the plastic top guide). You will need the top up to see in there, as with the top down the guide covers both screws. If you see a screw there you will need to lower the top and remove the U shaped metal bracket, don't worry, you can glue it back. Then remove the square plastic guide and remove the 2 screws.

8a) remove the 2 bolts on the backside of the 1/4 panel (you will see them when the back rest is removed).
9) Lean over from outside and pull out and up on the lower rear side of the panel, there are 3 fir pins hold the panel on.
10) Remove the 1/4 panel.
11) remove the 10 bolts holding the cover plate, you do not need to take the speaker out first, but you need to unbolt the seatbelt retractor.
12) Disconnect all wiring harness connectors, Speaker, Window and Seatbelt, after raising the roof and once window regulator harness is disconnected, lower the roof.
Note on Seatbelt, once the seatbelt harness is disconnected, it will not let you pull out the seatbelt, same thing if the retractor is not facing up.
13) If the bolts holding the window is not lined up with the holes, you can pull the window into place, I had to move mine slightly, the two bolts are accessed through 1" holes and the rear one is a ***** to access ( I used gasket sealant on the socket to help hold the bolts while pulling them out and also to install them).
14) now remove the glass.
15) remove the 2 lower and one upper bolts, there are two metal bars running across the bottom, the upper one is where the regulator bolted to and the is another one just below, I notched both taking about 3/4" down and about 2" along the length right where they are glued to another bar running up (can send you a pick if you want.).
16) It is a ***** to get out and in, but if you do what I did in 15, it will be much easier.
17) Use your old regulator as a guide to count the threads exposed between the frame and the nut and then reinstall.
Do not tighten the lower bolts, just the upper one, you will see why later.
18) Now reinstall the glass, making sure the glass is seated against the bottom of glass mount and bolt it back in.
19) Now measure the gap between the glass and the outer frame, it should be 5mm and you need to measure at the front and rear, I got lucky mine was about perfect. But if you need to adjust, adjust the bottom 2 inner nuts and when aligned tighten the nuts and re-measure and if still good, then button her up.

I take wine or a good beer as payment.

Also, if you do it on a weekend I am not traveling, I will give you my nbr if you have any questions.

It will take about 3-4 hours, took me longer because I forgot to plug in my charger and the service manual was missing a couple steps.

Wow! Thank you very much for taking the time to write this up. Much appreciated!!

I think this should be stickied!

Quick question, do you have the part number for the regulator?

Hi Randy

Just read your thread on the AM quarter window regulator replacement...I've got to do this...Great description - I wonder if you still have the picture available of where you notched out the "... two metal bars running across the bottom..." please?

Thanks
