5 Year Service.... Just a question

I just had my 5 year service completed on my 2015 Vantage V8S (about 27k miles)

Aston recommends changing the coolant every 5 years. My dealer measured the specificity of the coolant and did NOT change the coolant.

When I asked them about the coolant, they said it was ok, based on the specificity test that they completed.

Should I be concerned?

Thanks in advance.

The specific gravity tests to see if you've got the right mix of water and coolant but isn't really testing the condition of the coolant. The condition of the additives won't be measured. I've seen cars running fine with coolant far older than 5 years, but if it's in the book at that schedule, I'd do it.

I would stick to the schedule. It's not an expensive service item.

Dealer price is $375 plus tax, which seems a bit pricey to me.

How much is a new radiator or other items that could be harmed by not doing it? Although you did not pay 150K for the car, the service required for the life of the car is that of a 150K car. Maybe an indy shop can do it for less. Make sure if they do, they are using the OEM radiator fluid.

Dealership prices above the basics are a joke. Always charge way too much.

Point taken. For the life of me, I'm trying to understand why they would NOT change it. We go to the dealer for service "by the book". I don't go there to cut corners.

For the record, I may be one of the few Vantage owners that did pay 150K for their car. In fact, I paid a bit more, because the car was fully optioned out and to my exact specifications.

I'll probably get some OEM Coolant and have an independent do it.

It's an easy job on this car. Surprisingly easier than changing the oil. The dealer probably sells coolant, but you can also get Motul Inugel Optimal instead.

Yea, I was surprised at how easy it is. I don't have a lift. So I'll need to have someone get the car in the air for me.

Curious why the $375 extra when it's part of the maintenance @50k. Or did they reduce the cost some?

Bingo! My thoughts exactly. I come in for 5yr service and I'm being quoted a separate price for what should be part of the fifth year service. I'm scratching my head on this one.
They did not reduce the cost, btw. In fact, it seems to have increased!

I would suggest to them that they complete it per the service schedule as that it what our paid for.

I am leaning in this direction.

All paper work say the coolant change should be part of the 5 year service.
