Fuses 82 and 83 in the passenger floor. Yes, that process should work.

FYI, if you haven't accessed that fuse box yet, you'll need a T27 (I believe) Torx bit to remove the seven bolts.

Yes, T30. I took the panel off earlier today, and it was a bit of a pain to locate the fuses in question. One of them is behind a wiring loom, but hopefully won't be too tough to remove/replace when I find an appropriate set of pliers.

i use a pair of needle nosed pliers. and am careful to NOT DROP THE FUSE INTO THE BOTTOM OF THE FUSE ENCLOSURE. this is possible and not a pleasant experience. in fact, i would probably take the trouble to stuff a towel in there somehow to prevent that from happening to me.

also, the numbers are very small and difficult to read. use a bright light and magnify glass... you don't want to inadvertantly pull thr fuse for the wrong circuit

Some good news. The car came through its 40k service without a hitch - the only thing reported was the need for new front brake pads. I may just go for the Hawk HPS 5.0 from Redpants, as I've had a good experience with those from back in my Porsche days.

Bad news - the fuse pull only seemed to work for the passenger door - I'll try the relearn procedure again. AND, now I get a new error message about the passenger side airbag needing service😣 I think I could do with a new battery.

Aside from that, a question for my fellow owners. I want to invest in a good set of ratcheting wrenches. Would this set cover most or all of what I'd need to do with the Vantage -

Amazon Amazon

Thanks!

IDK about those Hawks. I have them on a 335i, and while I love the strong initial bite, they are very dusty and squeal a lot. On my V8V, I just replaced the stock pads with Carbotech 1521 compound for the sole purpose of reducing dust. I haven’t pushed them hard yet, but my initial impressions are favorable. Quiet and pretty much identical feel to stock. Dust is 85% better, and since it’s more grey than black, it’s much less apparent.

If I remember correctly, the Hawk pads seemed to have more of a gray colored dust, so appeared to give off less dust. No problems with squealing when I had them on my Cayman last year - hoping for the same now.

BTW - why does it have to be so difficult to find a set of front and rear pads at most online sellers?🙄 Do they just sell significantly more front pads?

Did you bed them? I had a pair of EBC reds that I decided to experiment on. I ran them for about 1000 miles without bedding. They dusted like crazy but actually felt pretty good. I then bed them by stopping hard 10 times from 60 and drive around to let them cool off, you could smell them. Since then, a few thousand miles later, very, very minor dust. Almost unnoticeable. Brakes feel pretty much exactly the same.

I have had older HPS pads on an Rx-7 with black wheels for a very long time, they stay pretty darn clean.

My car did that when I was messing with the fuse panel in the passenger foot well. If the light doesn't go away on it's own, I'd check the fuse, just in case.

*usually* you will replace fronts at least 2x more often than rear. Unless these cars have more of a rear bias, for some reason. Also, depending on how much your traction control kicks in, I could see the rear pads wearing a bit faster than "normal".. but probably not enough to make a huge difference.

often, when working on the car (or occasionally napping in the passenger's seat on a long days' drive) and moving the passenger seat forward and backward and/or moving the seatback forward or backward, or setting anything in the seat some error message or another shows up referencing the air bag. i've learned to ignore it. sometimes it goes away on its own sometimes not. if not, moving the seat forward or backward to the max usually sets things straight (on occasion i've prayed). there are a lot of bugs in the software on cars these days such that even the dealerships are sometimes mystified.

The passenger airbag warning is now gone The fix - push the seat forward. I'd put it back to make more room for access to the fuse box, and a process of elimination confirmed that this was indeed the reason for the error.

These cars are, if nothing else, quirky and temperamental.

That sounds more like a faulty connection somewhere. You could try disconnecting the battery, separating the seat wiring plug, spraying contact cleaner in there, a few plug/unplug actions, reconnect the battery and it might fix it. If that doesn't do it, check for trapped/abraded wiring around the seat, anything that could be strained when you move the seat around. It definitely doesn't sound like a software fault
