Retrofitting seats

Here's a random topic I've been thinking about lately:

I've got a 2009 Vantage and the driver's seat heater doesn't work. The lights turn on when it's in either position, but the heat element must be broken. Also, the lumbar support doesn't stay set, it just goes back to the default position over the course of about 30 seconds (I'm guessing it's an air bladder system that has a leak in it). The thing is, I don't use either of these features anyway... I don't drive the car on days that are cold enough to need the heater, and the seat's normal configuration has plenty of lumbar support as it is.

Instead of fixing these problems on the existing seat, I was considering retrofitting seats from a newer model of Aston in order to add one function that I really will use every time I drive the car: ventilated / cooled seats. Has anyone else considered doing this? Would it work? Which newer models have cooled seats that might work in a 2009?

Put in a set of red Spargo’s with matching belts 😉 boy racer style ....it’s what Astons need to juice up the interior

Yeah... race seats are the exact opposite of what I'm looking for here.

Yes, actually, very much like that. I don't know if I want to tear open my current seats, which is why I was looking for a set out of a newer model Aston that already has ventilation.

Good work, though, they look professionally done.
How well does it work? Where did you find the parts? Looks like some custom-fabbed ducting there.

It's only custom fabricated ducts.
I did quite some effort to ensure equalized flow over the whole seat surface - as a result it works really well, also on long journeys in hot conditions.

Don't know if other Astons do have ventillated Seats, but I think the seats of all VH models look very similar and therefore should be interchangable (maybe exept Rapide, wich may not tilt?).

If I do it myself I'll use a similar method of air delivery through the foam, and I can have a friend 3D-print any ducts I'll need. I may use smaller fans that are easier to locate, but more of them. Do you know how many amps your system draws at full power? I'm thinking I can get eight smaller fans on each seat and they'll draw less than 10A collectively, though the inrush current on startup might push it to 12. Shouldn't be a problem if I tap into the same circuit that the heater uses... it's got to draw more current than that.

Where did you get the diffusion nets? That's the hardest thing to find.

I dont recall the current draw, but using the seat heating fuse works well.
You can google for the nets with their german name "Abstandgewirke".
Make sure to report on your design if you make one.

Ah! Spacer mesh fabric! Thanks for that. Much easier to find now.

Yeah, if I do make my own I'll definitely post a work-up of the whole thing and a bill of materials for anyone who wants to do it themselves.

Maybe some diamond-quilted, perforated Alcantara would look good...
