Good luck. the other "option" is that it has slow leaked down and you've lost oil as well. Should you replace the compressor with the old one, be sure to add oil. I had this issue recently with another vehicle - it was making grumbling noises. I added 4 ounces of oil and it quieted up. (4 which is about 1/2 of the total fill for that installation).
Thanks for that info. is the oil added through the regassing valves?

Well that didn't go as planned. While removing the old AC clutch, the bolt head broke off leaving the clutch in place and not removable. I guess I will need to replace the entire unit now.
