2008 DB9 electrical issue
2008 DB9 electrical issue
Trying to figure out what's going on with my buddy's 2008 DB9 Volante. Every once in a while all of the warning lights come on (ABS, parking, engine, etc). At the same time the passenger window does not work. This seemly came out of nowhere and is intermittent.
Any help on what this could possibly would be much appreciated.

There are a couple things I'd start with:
Everyone and their mother will say, "How old is the battery?" Because old batteries cause some weird gremlins on these cars. If it's older than 5 years, I'd replace it regardless of its ability to hold a charge.
Next thing I'd look at is the fuse panel behind a plate in the passenger side floorboard. There's a wire harness that runs dangerously close to a bare metal edge down there, and some people have found chafed wiring because of it. You can just grab some stick-on velcro and wrap the loop side (soft side) around that metal edge to prevent it cutting the wires' insulation.
Beyond that, I'd start looking at grounding wires. Corroded terminals can cause bad grounding and result in multiple intermittent failures.
Good luck.

At this point (summer weather), I'd disconnect the CRM, which is in the front of the left rear well. You loose the roof AND the release for the trunk. Drive for a while and see if the electrical error comes back. If it doesn't, he needs to spend about a grand for a new module and a trip the dealer for a re-flash... I am waiting for the reflash on mine. AM did a crappy job of providing protection for the Kiekert built module, but they found a way to make it 8X more expensive!

+1 - trouble shooting an Aston...especially a Volante, with a battery in unknown condition -- No can do! I know battery replacement is a pain (see DYI instructions) but I hope your fix is a only battery replacement and redoing some setting.

Gentlemen,
Really appreciate the input. A couple of updates.
1. It is a 2006 not 2008 but I'm sure that doesn't matter too much.
2. battery was replaced a couple of weeks ago and the problem did reoccur after
3. there was a shop involved that started with the CRM but I think they tested it when everything was working. I would assume it would have thrown a code when it happened and that code would still be there that would indicate the CRM. They think the CRM is good but I'm not sure if I trust the troubleshooting.
Would a default in the CRM show up with a code or would this type of fault be disguised? I am happy to drive it without the module and see what happens. Certainly don't want to waste money on a good part.
Thanks again,
Daniel

My CRM issue showed up suddenly and would go away if I let the car cool down and after I disconnected the battery (Couldn't turn the car off). It would be fine in the AM, and then randomly, but increasingly more frequently go nuts. Disconnecting the CRM made the gremlin go away.
