to shim or not to shim (porterfield r4s) that is the question

installed r4-s pads 1165 front and 1166 rears on my 2010 v8v and came into shim confusion.
On the rears, I put the old shims on to the new porterfields. the old shim had a ss metal plate on the inside and black surface on the outside
On the fronts, I just mounted the new porterfields without old shims as it seemed there was a shim in place already.
However, each pad had some sort of shim like material on its backside. to begin with. the front pads had a shim with ears over the pad. not the backs
Did I over or under shim?
I tried to put the old shims over the new shims in the fronts, but could not wedge in the pad so i defaulted to no old shim on new pad
on each of the pad shims I gooped on permatex disc brake quiet in the hopes of squeal prevention

Finally, the porterfield pads insert for the sensor is on the upside of the pad rather than the down. this obviates the use of the slot in the caliper to run the wiring through this appendage (pic)_
I would appreciate any feedback on this. The car remains on jacks at present as i am retyring the thing, having submitted the wheels to my local tire guy for a new set. I am wondering about the sqeal factor when I take to the road

this pic shows the extra slot in 1 of the 4 pads. the extra slot is present in both the front and rear pads. The extra slot will not house the brake sensor since it it configured differently

the new porterfield pads have the brake sensor slot on top, while the old pads had the insert on the bottom. the result is that i could not lead the sensor wire through the intended slot on the caliper

shims, iME, are removable (some may be glued on to the pad (porsche) and some have clips/tabs to hold them to the pad). and there should only be one of them on each pad. some pads come with shims, some don't.

just posting an update to my own thread. Porterfield said both the front and rears from my v8v R-4S pads do not need added shims. the ones supplied with the pads are adequate
