Need help sourcing a new convertible top control module
Hey All- got the bad news today that, contrary to 2 other professional diagnoses (exotic techs/the Dealer (they did not examine the car to be fair), my 2010 V8V Roadster needs a module (I will try to attach a pic). Dealer is researching whether/if the unit can be 'reprogrammed', seeing as how it states right on it "Programmable".....
If not a new one is like 2,000 US Dollars......INsane.
Wondering if anyone might suggest some other supplier besides AM. Or, an AM dealer in the US that doesn't mark up its parts by 200%....
Many thanks for any help you might provide!
Ebay 1000.00. My 07 went thru 3 of these. The 3rd time I put it inside the trunk where the sportshift module and tire kit is. Easy access and less harsh environment.
Thanks all - ! Astonbits has one for about $1,000.00 as well. Charliefore, did you use this particular EBay seller? If not, I am leery about buying a part from them and, if for whatever reason it doesn't work......as opposed to Astonbits, which I would assume would be reputable to deal with.
Jay doubleU- question sir: why couldn't my local dealer simply re-program it? I am 99% certain that it lost it's "memory" when the Tech disconnected the battery to install a new clutch. The roof worked fine before that repair and when I got the car back, I FAILED to check the operation of the roof (everything else worked fine - (I assume they reset the windows, etc)
Thanks again to each of you for your responses - guess how much the Stealership wants for a new one? Are you sitting down? $2600 !
Ummm, N O
I've bought several parts for my DBS from Aston Martin Bits over the years, including a roof module. And I ordered some glass buttons just a couple weeks ago. They are very professional and their delivery service has improved over the years. They have used parts but the parts described as new are OEM and sourced from Aston Martin directly. I have also purchased from Scuderia and can't say anything but good things about them. Scuderia has a footprint in the States which might get you the part sooner. However, the last order I placed with AMB I received only three business days after payment. I would not consider a used roof module from a parted out car, since it might be on its last legs. Also, the roof module has been updated since 2010 and I think it'd be in your interest to get the updated version.
Many Thanks all! On A related Note---I spoke w/ Charliefore the other day by phone and we discussed the vagaries of the CRM (Convertible Roof Module), which is one of the "Achilles Heels" of the Roadster. I explained how, following a clutch replacement, the roof wouldn't operate, and how my local (genius) Tech checked the cowl motor and related and pinpointed the problem to the CRM. Then, in a significant display of AM love for his fellow AM owner, told me that he had three (3) of these modules (2 in various conditions and 1 new) and would Fedex them to me the next day. Normally, NEVER at a loss for words, I nevertheless was able to mumble my Thanks. *********--->What I still need to sort out is whether or not the Dealer needs to program the car once I install the module.
Thank you Charlie. As we say in Nokesville, Virginia...."What goes around, comes around". A real example of payin it forward.....
Well, in a previous post Jay Double U stated otherwise, e.g. that it would not need to be AMDS'd. I PM'd J Double U to ask for some guidance (he knows his stuff, IMHO!)
