Window Delamination
Window Delamination
Hello All,
I have a 2012 Aston Martin Rapide in good condition, but I am starting to see early signs of window delamination—specifically along the edges of the glass where the four doors meet in the center.
At this point it is not highly noticeable, but it is clearly beginning.
Here is my dilemma: I would like to proactively replace the window seals, as they are aging. However, I have been advised that removing/replacing the seals could cause the already-delaminating glass to crack or worsen to the point where it cannot be properly reinstalled. I have also been quoted close to $15,000 to replace the affected glass, which seems excessive relative to the value of the car.
A few questions for the group:
Appreciate any insight—trying to avoid turning a minor cosmetic issue into a major expense.
Thanks in advance.

A few questions for the group:
- Has anyone dealt with seal replacement on partially delaminated glass?
- Is the risk of cracking during seal replacement real in your experience?
- Are there any workarounds (specialists, techniques, aftermarket glass, etc.)?
- Would you leave the seals alone until the glass gets worse?
Appreciate any insight—trying to avoid turning a minor cosmetic issue into a major expense.
Thanks in advance.
This is just a thought but is this a warranty item? Glass on a car shouldn’t delaminate. It is a safety problem that there could be a recall if it happens. I have never hears of a car having the glass delaminate.
The best I can explain it is that the window seems to be constructed with two pieces put together an interior piece and exterior piece that are stuck together. They seem to be coming apart. I am told I need to (sooner or later) replace all 4 windows. It looks like a $10,000 project that I am rally not willing to undertake. Otherwise the car is perfect.
Seems to be a fairly common problem with Bentleys too. Do a quick search on the Bentley forum here.
