actually, the engine in this new Q7 is not the same one that was in the R10 race cars. It is based on existing 3.0L diesel engine but uses a lot of the new tech developed for the R10. Piezo injection for example (2000bar!!) is a great new tech just making it into diesels now. Piezo injectors are fast enough to inject seveal variable size "bursts" of fuel during a single cycle to rate shape the fuel charge for precisely controlled burn giving optimum power and minimum emisions.

This vehicle is actually a production model (unlike the X5 LeMans) look to see the Q7 V12 on the streets (depending on where you live) soon!

From what I have read it doesn't appear that this model will make it to the U.S. in the near future

Thats just sick! I drove the VW Touareg with the V10 TDI and was very impressed. I can't even begin to imagine what a beast this is going to be. A friend of mine from Audi mentioned that they were going to bring Audi TDI's into the States starting in 08 with the VW TDI's again. I hope this is in the lineup!
