@Swflbt23 hello I’m having a problem opening my 2012 Bentley gtc the top won’t open fully, it opens until it gets to the tonneau cover opening function, then it stops. iIts reading code 01986 convertible top frame position sensor. So I ordered Top-Potentiometer 8H0959613A. Where is this sensor located on my car?? I would appreciate you all’s help.

Hello @Bentley45 ,
I know this video is for an Audi, it is Louis' from Audiworld and it may give you an idea of the location, as it is the same part number.
Update!!! ok it wasn’t my frame position sensor it was the 2 straps on both sides that broke. The stapes pull up the rear tonneau cover compartment. Bentley has a repair kit part number 3W7898025 and they know this is a common problem on all gtc cars. The original straps that came with the car are smaller than the ones in repair kit. I think they made them to small in the original design, because those straps are under a lot of pressure so it’s a accident waiting to happen. Bentley should have recalled all gtc cars to fix this issue. Now that i fixed the problem, I still have 2 small wholes in my roof, when the straps broke it popped 2 wholes in my top. I just put a patch on it for now.I’ll buy a new top if I keep the car. Check out pictures below.

Yes, its the same thing every time,. The rivet corrodes and fails causing the strap to tear and thus the hood gets trapped. Sorry to see the ugly patch on your roof. If you want to cut a corner on the expense of an entire replacement skin, you can have an upholsterer glue a much larger triangular patch to both sides. This gives the impression its meant to be like that and can save you a small fortune.
I read your posts and saw you offered to talk someone through a stuck roof operation. I am very versed in cars but the roof I never dealt with. Any chance you can txt me 1-289-990-3325 and tell me when a good time to call you would be for a little help.
thank you so much

Had the same problem with the fault code G356. Opened the roof to the "stuck" position and located the sensor (behind driver side seatbelt mechanism). The arm of the sensor had come off and thus the computer couldn't read its position. There was some black tape around the sensor holding it in position that had come undone. Reset the arm in the appropriate hole and re-taped the sensor to its mount. Opened and closed the roof. No Problem. Fault code automatically cleared.
Does anyone have any current or updated information on the Bentley soft top operation? The top opens halfway to the point where the back deck lid is to open, and the rear side flaps open to the point when the rear deck lid is supposed to do its thing but will not open. After holding the button for an extended period of time it sets off a Position Sensor Code. Is anyone willing to offer support with this issue before I bring it to the dealer? Thanks
If the top is completely stowed and the lid will not open to allow the top to come out. Most likely cause are linkage flap motors are starting to fail ( little flaps that open sideways) or the top module thinks the trunk lid is open. Those cars have an overload switch that sometimes needs adjusted. Do you have a roof fault displaying in your cluster? Or does your boot lid show open in the cluster when it is latched?
I have the same problem, the trunk light in the cluster is on intermittently, but the trunk is closed, so the car thinks it's open, the roof won't open or close when that happens. The trunk works just fine, so not sure why the light comes on and prevents me from operating the top.
