Down the center to the left side once I get to the back seats and it’s a hole there to pass then through the trunk. I’m mounting the DSP controller in the ashtray like this guy.

Check at 5:30

Yah that's cool, that means down the drivers side in your case, great don't take any on the other side where the starter battery cables come through from the truck (boot) you'll get major feedback ... The DSP in the ashtray is a great idea ...
Get it done and lets hear them sounds ...
What ever happened to British and his sound system the last I heard from him was it was finished but was using the stock amp ...

Down the center where the gear shifter is.

Yea that’s the last I heard from him also on here. I wanted to meet up with him to have a listen but I’m guessing he’s really busy. He did say if ppl wanted to add a sub, don’t get an 8 inch like he did.

Well fockes here I am at the end of a journey that took around 3 months, found some good people on the forum and made some friend. I thank everyone who gave me there feedback and helped me along the way. Ive made a video, its not the best in the world not like the guys in Hollywood but its for you guys to see what can be done, hope you enjoy the sounds, let me know what you think ...

Continued …

System Design & Setup...

A few notes on how to design the best possible audio system to achive the best sound ...

The first step is getting to know what equipment you have in the car speakers sizes, power output on the amp, the head unit isn’t going to make a difference as that is just a source to send sound to the amp & then to the speakers.

1. Put pen to paper list everything you may think you need, a big loud system isn’t necessary going to have the best sound. I’ll came to that later.
2. Most Bentley’s have 12 speaker, 2 front tweeters, 8 x 9’s front of doors, 3" mids front of doors, bass rear of doors, 3" mids rear seating, 2 rear tweeters.

Designing the system, starting from the head unit one needs to run 2 sets of RCA’s or 3 depending if a subwoofer is to be installed in the boot

a. use the RCA out on the head unit
b. using an amp with sub output.

3. Depending on the power (watts) the system will draw X amount of amps from the main battery, this will also have an effect on the alternator. Need to work out the amps (power)

Example: Amplifier 700 watts Peak

Divide 700 RMS by 14.4v = 48.6 Amps

Alternator Output 190 Amps

Subtract 48.6 - 190 = 141.4 Amp

Assuming the battery is 100% efficient, divide 700 by 10 = 70 - 10% = 60 Amps (power)

The system will draw 60 Amp peak when the car is running from the AGM battery on top of all the other equipment running in the car. That is peak power, no one is going to run full on power you’d be deaf in a week.

Cable size Positive & Negative from battery to Amplifler at 60 Amps 2mts cables size 13mm.

System lay out, I’ll give you my example, 7” touch screen head unit, 5 channel amp running front tweeters, front doors 6.5’s, rear side of seats 5.0’s, rear tweeters, rear centre sub 8” controlled via (subwoofer gain control) & 4 x crossovers. 4 channel amp, running 3” mids front doors, 6.5” bass rear of doors (bridged) this amp also runs the mids & the bass via a field controller & EQ.

When running RCA cables & speaker cables its important to keep them as far away as possible from the main battery cables ie: starter battery cable that runs down the side O/S.

Setting up the system, this process is over looked by many as once the system is fired up they assume it’s all ok works & sounds fine ... NO ...

Setting up the system is the most important step. The human ear is more prone to mid range, The best sound is when a speaker is at ear level but thats not possible. The system will need tuning in such a way as to the ear the band is right in front of you.

To achieve this there are a few things to tune & setup ...

4. Measure the distance from each speaker to the drivers seat or to the middle ie the dash clock, not often one would carry passengers in the rear, front seat yes.
TV flat screen example, many hang the tv on the wall as high as possible thats the wrong thing to do, not only one will have a neck ache viewing the picture it looks distorted. The correct place for a wall tv is right in front, while sat on the sofa the eyes should be focused in the middle of the screen for optimum picture quality. The same applies with sound.

5.Time delay most head units will have this in setup, time delay is the optimum way to setup a system. To precisely align the speakers: tweeter, doors, rears so the music arrives at ones ears at the right time & one speaker isn’t getting to the ears before.

This is an example of time delay, in a musical context spread out distorted sounds or any other sound source Digital time alignment allows you to digitally delay the closest speakers so that every speaker reaches your ears at the same time. It's awesome. When set up properly one can sit in the driver's seat, close your eyes (not while driving) and you will NOT be able to pinpoint where the music is coming from.

Sound travels at 343 meters per second, one can delay the sound between 10-35ms.

6. Here is a sound illustration on how the sound is processed towards the driver & to the front of the vehicle.

When using a laptop & a microphone to setup sound, use a RTA (real time analyser) program.

I hope this helps, the sound will be amazing …

Ha! Radio was great, stock amp is plenty loud, I could use a little louder, but it rattles the doors and mirrors, so it's ok. My first Ben Hur unit blew up, they're doing an autopsy on it now, I bought a second, it too died.

The car is currently in the shop getting the engine pulled (argh) for turbo solenoids, and a new wing module, third hand from the shop, they "got your radio working", so maybe it was just a fuse.

I had about two glorious weeks of pounding bass and great tunes, then blewie. Then another two weeks and blewie.

I think this car is 90% cheaper to operate for guys who are willing to have the "check engine" light on. I insist that my dash be clear of warning lights and I'm paying for it.

Didn't mean to disappear, radio only worked for two weeks, then new one, then about a week and a half, so there hasn't been anything to listen to. It's at Fluid Motor Union right now, but I think I'll have it back early next week and maybe the radio will work?

On your thread I asked you a couple of questions re your system, I understand your using the stock amp with the BenHur but as I keep mentioning the BenHur only uses one pair from the 2 sets of RCA's so that means your system is only working on 1 channel, what have they done to the other channel & how have they connected the sub, have a look at the post I posted on your thread ...

One pair of RCA’s are left and right...2 channels. So it’s stereo, just two channels and the BEN HUR breaks it up to fade and balance. Once I’m done I’ll be using the RCA’s off the rear of the radio which is front, rear and sub. Still debating if I want to use a Masconi DSP to better fine tune it.

The BenHur only take one side of the RCA's front or rear, not both & yes then the BenHur splits that signal into left & right so your missing 1 channel ok your getting stereo as such but its not the full sound, that one channel is then broken up by the stock amp into 12 speakers, ones not getting the true sound , what your hearing is one channel blown up by the stock amp but its missing vital sound you would hear from a quadraphonic system, the head unit has front & rear for a reason it splits the sound into 4 channels, if you take away one set of channels your defeting the object what you set out to do in the first place ... is to have better sound ...
Before I changed the system the stock system sounded ok, once I installed the new head unit with one set of channels the sound was rubbish I could hear something was missing, yah that missing one set of channels ...
One can add as much equipment as they desire but your still missing one set of channels ...
The BenHur guys have been clever in pulling the wool over our eyes, one cant use the balance or the fader on the new head unit as I keep saying it only uses the Front or the Rear channels, what these guys have done is to split that one channel & make the BenHur do the Balancing & the Fading to confuse the stock amp into thinking its receiving quadraphonic sound ...
The head unit I have does all the fine tuning as Ive mentioned in my post a few days ago, But one cant do that if the head unit isn't using one set of channels ...

Not most people on this boards taste but I guess manufacturers are starting to notice owners want more than what the stock provides.
