Plastic shifter slider thing part number if anyone wants
Just had a friend PM me about the part number for the shifter plastic sliding part, someone else found the part number, so I can't take credit. I ordered it on Ebay and got it fairly quickly for $60 or so, I think the Bentley part is several hundred dollars, it's the same thing.
Johnny knows how to do it. I don't think it's all that difficult, my stereo install shop just accepted the part and said they'd put it on, and that "every Bentley that comes in wants this", which is probably exaggerating but they didn't charge me for it and knew how to change it. I know you have to pull out the center console, which is why I asked them to do it, since it was all coming out for the Ben Hur install.
Anyway, ask Johnny Hotspur or one of the other manly men on here that do their own work.
Did you find instructions on how to do the job or did you figure it out for yourself?
Looking at the shifter bezel on my car I can't see how it is attached to the console.
Give me some time to get pics and info together, stuck at work, blew an other hydraulic hose on S600 ABC suspension system on the way in today.... UBER ride home time, gotta fire up the 05 A8l W12 tonight after work, then I will get some pics of shifter gate...

Hello All,
Just wanted to update that I never left work yet, so I did not get you all the info yet, I WILL be leaving work tonight and shall get the pics and info Sunday/Monday.
Hello All,
I am going to assume that you all know how to remove the shifter **** and the center console wood trim.
So please see my pictures for the removal of the round PRD and shifter gate slider, in the first pictures you will see 4 clips, 2 for each side, unplug the wiring to the shifter gate, and then release the 4 clips to lift the assembly straight up, next you will see my thumb on one side and my fingers on the other side, hold the assembly as shown and squeeze with thumb and finger to release black plastic assembly from the round shifter piece, next you will see 10 clips to unclip, (PLEASE BE GENTLE) there will be 6 in the center (3 each side) and 2 at each end, some were already broken and missing on the unit I am using for information, so I marked all the spots with red, once you unclip the 10 spots, lift the inner cover off to access the slider and replace.

Item 5 in this diagram is the cover piece?

Johnny can help there. There are also threads on here on how to do it. I had my radio installer do it, he had done them before, so it couldn't have been that difficult.
Also anything thinking about buying that piece, Ebay shows "94% sold" if that means anything. I'm sure more can be found under the part number, but I had good luck with this shipper.

The part on the ebay link is now up to $93 but there are some others, also from Latvia for a bit less but with multi week delivery. In searching around I found that Jim Ellis VW in Atlanta sells the part (Audi p/n 4E1713187A) for $101.26 with free shipping and ordered it. Got it in one week and here are some photos. My mechanic friend has done it many times and is going to put it in tomorrow and says it'll only take 15 minutes.

You're going to like your car more after it goes in. Nobody else notices it, but it made me crazy; after putting it in, it feels much better. I think I spent $60, but I'd do it for $100 without blinking an eye. It's like the difference between driving around with a check engine light on or off.
