Dead battery - How to open trunk / boot?
Dead battery - How to open trunk / boot?
Hello,
I seem to have waited too long to put chargers on my batteries this time, and now it doesn't start or open the trunk. This has happened once before a year ago, but for the life of me I cannot remember what I did to get it open. I think I remember something with the opening between the rear seats? Is there something inside the trunk I can push or pull?
I have removed the right rear seat but the latch behind it doesn't seem to work. I know I didn't do this a year ago.
I have searched this forum and Youtube, but nothing I find seems to work.

I actually got it to start using the key in the ignition after a few tries. Then I could get the trunk to open after letting it run for a little while. So now I have my trickle charger on the driver's side battery.
However, I would still like to know why the manual latch behind the rear passenger seat isn't opening my trunk? Anything I can do to make it work better next time?
Is there another way to reach inside that ski opening, or whatever the opening is called between the two rear seats, to open the trunk? If it's difficult to describe, by all means, please attach pictures.
Thanks in advance!

One thing you can do for next time this happens is to use a trickle charger with a cigarette lighter attachment. You can plug it into one of the cabin cigarette lighters and it will trickle charge the battery enough for you to get enough juice to pop the trunk.
This is an old thread but i can't see any answers so here goes..
The bentley workshop guide actually states that it's a two man job. One to pull the lever and one to bounce up and down on the boot lid!
Hope this helps someone else

Thank you for that! I did not know about the bouncing.
Since then I have also learned that I must have been fiddling with the key in the ignition this past time, because if you turn it to the left (instead of the regular right, for LHD vehicles) it also uses the second battery to start the vehicle. Once you turn it opposite of the regular way to start your vehicle, you hear somewhat of a click, and for me it started right up after that. I guess I was lucky that time.
The batteries drain so fast for this model, and to follow the steps of replacing one, or both, are at least two pages in the manual.
