2006 Continental gt-the indicator in the dash display reads correctly until I go to D. Then all the indicators light up-P R N D S. They stay that way until I shut the vehicle off. The manual shift by the shifter or paddles will not work when this happens. Has anyone had this issue? I thought it was the shifter dust cover because it has magnets in that slide on the board; because it was broken - but that did not help. The trans is not in limp mode. Could it be the eBay item?Thx

When I replaced mine I had the same problem. It turned out the magnet had not been inserted correctly at the factory - and it was a genuine VAG part!
Start by checking that and then the circuit board would be the next step.

Thanks for the tip-I remember seeing the magnet flat side down but Im gonna pull it back out and check it . Mine was not a VAG part so Im gonna make sure they are magnets also.
I figured as much but just wanted to clarify. Maybe try a can of Dust Off to blow away any dirt? Maybe the circuit board is misaligned? Just some things to look at.
OK- here is what I found. The magnets are in place correctly and are strong. The circuit board looked OK under magnification. Took off the top plate to check the top of the board looked good. Took Off the plastic white piece on top of the shifter as it looked like it was not sitting flat.
Put it all back together and now it works fine. The only thing I can think of is it needed to be Synchronized ? because the key was on when I did it first..Or maybe it was out of place some to not be aligned properly to the board? Dont know but it works now. Thanks for the insight.
Now on to the AC issues @ highway speeds not cooling on auto
Glad you got it working. Sounds like that white piece of plastic might have skewed it a bit. Good luck on the AC. When my '09 had a problem with the AC blend doors not functioning correctly a software reload fixed it. I don't have any details about what was done though.
