Bentley contitnental gt w12 airbag warning light

Hey,

I am a Bentley newbie! My Air Bag Warning Light is on and (coincidentally while valeting!) I found a Yellow plug with Purple band and Blue & Grey cable under the Driver's seat. I eventually also found a spare Socket, also with Purple band but with 'Pink' & Grey cable. It doesn't look as if they fit?

Any ideas out there?

Hello @Precizion ,
Welcome to 6speedonline !

As to your issue, have a good look under the seat, move the seat to it's furthest back and highest height positions, you should see 3 yellow plugs/sockets on the bottom of the seat, and 3 plugs/sockets that come from the wiring harness that comes up through the carpet.

Sorry my pictures are not the best as to focus.

Did you just get the GT with the airbag light on, or did this happen somehow during ownership, anyone working on the seat ?

You will have to remove the black plastic cover as pictured to gain access to the seat control module and airbag plugs/sockets, that is, if it is still in place.

Bwntley sur bag sensor

Hi Johnny,

Sorry, I'm struggling with the technology. I took a pic of what I found. There is an empty Socket, Yellow with a Purple band + Grey & Pink (?) wire. The spare Yellow plug has Blue & Grey wires & doesn't look as if it will rut the empty socket.

Precizion,
What year is your GT, what happened to cause the plugs to come undone, even the white plastic clip is removed from it's mounting point.

Are you saying that this happened during the valeting of the vehicle, if so, did you question said valet personnel as to what happened, as these plugs do not just come undone on their own, do all seat functions work ?

You need to lift the seat to it's highest position and move it to the rear, then take pictures of the wiring harness/plugs coming up from the floor, then the plugs mounted on the seat, the plugs/sockets have a lid that moves to allow the connection to be made.

Bentley air vag sensor

Hi Johnny

Thanks fir your reply. No, I was doing a bit of valeting when I spotted the Yellow plug! As I said, You can see an empty Socket, also Yellow, with the Purple band but Blue/Pink wiring rather than Blue/Grey on the plug. As mentioned, it doesn't look as if they fit together unfortunately. I will try to take a better picture.

Hello @Precizion ,
Sorry, but I can not help you if you do not answer my questions, such as the year of your GT, and how and when this issue came to be, I don't see that you sticking a vacuum nozzle under the seat to clean the carpets would dislodge the airbag connectors, we seriously would need better pictures to see all the airbag wiring harness under the seat, even if you have to shine a spotlight to illuminate the darkness under the seat, I can not help without seeing what you have, even your one picture is cut off at the top of the Blue/Gray, and Blue/Brown wiring, so take many more at different angles and lighting so we can better understand what is going on under said seat.

Also, your use of the phase "valeting" threw me off, as on my side of the pond, a valet parks your vehicle, I now understand that you where cleaning/vacuuming the carpet... ☺️

Bentley continental air bag warning light

Hi Johnny,

In hindsight, I wish I had not used the term "valeting". I was just having a tidy up when I noticed the Yellow plug/socket disconnected. Sorry but I thought I had said my GT is a 2004 and the Airbag Warning Light was on all the way home (and since). I found an unused Sensor in the Glove Box, which the previous owner bought but didn't fit, for whatever reason. The only way I'll get a better picture is to undo the seat runner bolts and tilt it more.

Regards

@Precizion ,
Ok, you have a 2004, and there in lies some confusion for me, as the two sockets you show to the right appear to be of multiple pins, meaning 4/8 or 5/10, it is hard to tell as the picture is out of focus and shaky, so a better in focus picture will help, as would a picture of the face of each plug laying on the carpet, as to show it's pins or pin socket count, as the three plugs/sockets I have on my 2005 original seats, as well as to 2006 seats from the parts vehicle, all have only 2 or 3 pins/sockets in each.

The three plugs are in this order as shown in my pictures, the blue/brown wire 3 pin plug goes to the seat side airbag connection, the other 2 go the the seatbelt clasp/igniter, this is one 2 pin plug and one 3 pin plug.

Now mind you, when I say 3 pin plug, I mean the the 3 pin plug is made to hold 3 pins, eventhough it only has 2 pins in it, whereas the 2 pin plug has just 2 pins/sockets.

Post a picture of this sensor you say was in the glovebox, it's probably an impact sensor for under the bonnet, or for the rear seating area behind the side panels.

From you comment, I take it that the airbag light has been on since you acquired the vehicle, and by the sensor in the glovebox, and disconnected plugs under the seat, the prior owner had issues with same, therefore, it may come down to you removing the three 12 point M12 bit bolts at the rear of the seat, then the two 16mm nuts at the front, and tilting the seat back for better observation.

You can see my information on seat removal in this thread link, post number 5.

Hi Johnny,

Thank you so much for your patience with me!

Something else has now come up. I took the Bentley to my local garage as the Horns have never worked and their estimation is that both the Horns not working and the Air Bag warning light on are almost certainly part of a faulty "clock spring" mechanism behind the steering wheel. Does that make any sense? Unfortunately, their diagnostic equipment won't read the Bentley!

@Precizion ,
Before I would jump into removing the steering wheel / airbag, I would test the horn connections at the horns themselves, access to the horns is easy by removing the wheelhouse liner or belly pan, I would test for power with test light while someone is pressing the horn pad at the steering wheel.

Does everything else work at the steering wheel, do the buttons illuminate when the parking lights or headlights are turned on, do the buttons control their functions as the should ?

If all buttons work as to function, and they illuminate, I would think the clock spring to be ok.

When my clock spring was faulty, I had no illumination of the buttons, nor did the "cruise" illuminate in the instrument cluster when I pressed the on button.
