M3 vs M5
M3 vs M5
hi,
i was wondering which you prefer and why...between a 2008 dct m3 and a 2007 smg m5...
ease and fun to drive all day and cabin are key...i dont mind the cabin of the m3.
thanks more worried about smg smoothness vs dct.
\thanks

man...you are all over the place with cars!
i depends what you like...the m5 is a very quick heavy, heavy luxo cruiser. the m3 is not as fast but much more nimble and agile.
m5s values have tanked royally, making them a dirt cheap bargain these day-same with the m6, so you can get a steal of a deal on one of them.

they dont call the M5 "The Beast" for nothing. both cars are great but the roar of the V10 at high revs just cant be beat.

Hopefully I will have a video up soon of me running a Dinan modified M5 with my DCT. The problem is the guy in the M5 had the passenger in his car use his camera not mine so it is like pulling teeth to try and get it. He did not like the results and wants a rematch...
The cars straightline are not as far off as people would think based on the figures on paper. The DCT shift speed clearly made up some ground. I have run 3 M5's now so far and on the street from a stop, the M5 is playing a never ending game of catch up. The M3's launch is just that superior, 5500 rpm (adjustable to 6200) vs. 1800 will do that. The M5 clearly makes more power but in order for it to show, it needs speeds most of us will not hit in daily driving (120 mph+).
I won't go into the handling and braking as that is obvious.

I am truly not a fan of the M6...
The M5 i like, even the M3 i like, but the M6... no way
m3 coupe is nice, m3 sedan is terrible from the rear and side, and m5 is not bad.
I have driven both cars and if price is no option, the M5 is clearly more fun to drive. The M3 is torqueless!!! If you are only considering a BMW you should decide between the M5 and a 335i. It's much cheaper and smarter to mod an 335i then to buy an M3.
