M6 as Daily Driver?

I was thinking about picking up an M6 for a DD and was wondering if I could get any input/suggestions from you M people. Thanks in advance.

I daily drive mine and absolutely love it. Perfectly comfy and luxurious for long trips but drop down a few gears and it turns into a highway beast. It's a very good mix of GT/Sport from my experience. You can't do better in this class unless you step up to the 599 Fiorano.

Thanks for the input. The one I am looking at is a 2006 with around 45k miles. That seems like quite a bit and I usually drive a couple hundred miles per week. Is there things I should specifically watch out for with a higher mileage M6?

Depending on the distance of your commute, the poor fuel economy will wear very thin on you.
06's had SMG issues (more so with the M5's than the M6. Not sure why that was the case seeing as they have exactly the same tranny/engine), so something to check on (i.e. was the steering angle sensor replaced). Think there were some fuel pump issues as well with the earlier models (not sure about that one).

Comfort and powerwise, it would be a great DD.
But if there's no existing warranty, be very cautious, esp with 45K on the odo.

Excellent guys, thank you very much for the helpful information!

-it has a "factory warranty" but I am not sure what that covers or length of time it lasts.

Factory is 4 years/50,000 miles. Looks like this one is about to run out on both counts.

If it's a CPO ( Certified Pre-Owned ) BMW you're covered for up to 6 years or 100,000 miles, whichever comes first.

As for the M6, it's a great car it really is. Comfortable, fast, and a great cruiser. My only complaint is that my boss had an M5 and my other friend had an M6, both had SMG issues. I'm not saying all cars have this, but be prepared to face "some" issues with the vehicle. The 6 isn't the most reliable out of all the BMW's out there.

Comfort - Good, but not fantastic. A lot of Mercedes vehicles do beat the BMW in this category.
Performance - Godly. Simply stunning for a DD.
Shifting - When on a decently high setting, they are VERY rough. ( Tested on Boss' 2007 BMW M5 )

I have an 08 M6 Vert as my DD and love it. Gas mileage is poor but the smile it puts on your face compensates! this car will keep you off of the therapists couch!! Mine is a stick which is awesome! Great connection to the car.

Good Luck!

I am in the same boat. wanted a M5 for the longest time but now with prices getting more realistic i am going with the M6!

Just do it and throw some coilovers on it...unless you need 4 doors you will not look back

Definitely don't need 4 doors...but after reading this I am thinking I should stay away from a car that doesn't have a warranty or only a short warranty left....Do the 6 speeds have a lot less problems than the SMG's? Don't worry, I'll do some of my own research too, but just throwing it out there for current owners.

Sounds like cost is an issue (it certainly is for me). What I would do is pick up a low mileage E46 M3....perfect DD and can be had for a song nowadays.
