Thanks!
Well, I get this question a lot. I ordered the R8 in December of 2007 with a 12 month delivery time, well before the market tanked. Then, the economy crumbled the rest of the way in 2008. When the call came in that the R8 was ready to ship, O almost cancelled the order. But I decided to follow through and took delivery in December of 2008. Had a great time with it for a while but needed to recover some cash.
I've had a lot of cars but more BMWs than anything else. Must be a reason. Our first new BMW was a 1983 320is, then a 1989 325is (which we just recently sold) and finally a 95 M3. So, another BMW seemed like the way to go. I almost bought a 135i withthe M Sport package but the wheelbase is shorter and the ride is fairly harsh. The 335is is a perfect balance between performance, daily driver and highway cruiser. Just what we needed.

Now to reverse the question, what made you to go from 3 series Bimmers to an R8? I know that the prices of each aren't even close!!!

But you're right about the $. I worked real hard on a 2 year contract and saved enough to pay cash. I know, I know, crazy.
The 4.2L V8 had a 0-60 time of about 4.5 sec as I recall. To some, it seemed under powered but it was not. I think this rumor came about because you just can't shake the car loose, with traction control on. Audi addressed this with the 5.2L V10 but you loose some of the V8's nimbleness (and that great exhaust note). Serious V8 owners that can afford it are installing a SC or TT which offers similar power and less weight. Wnen I'm 90 and they pull my license, I'll still say It was the best car I ever owned, bar none.
dont get me wrong, its not a slouch in terms of 0-60, but factoring its price (when a $30K wrx can hit 60mph in 4.7), its not its strong pt. but the mid-rear platform must provide amazing handling; plus its beautiful to look at.
curious what other cars you considered before purchasing the r8

My 335is will do 0-60 in 4.8 sec too but that's not really the point, is it?
The only real contender was a late model LP-560.Once Audi got their hands on Lamborghini, the interior quality started coming up quickly. Today, the interiors of the R8 and Gallardo look very similar, right down to ***** & functionality. The Lambo would be out of warranty and difficult to service in Tucson. The R8 won on both fronts. IMO, anyone with similar financial resources and concerns would come to the same decision. The R8 is a lot of bang for your buck - more so now with CPO cars readily available.
