About the E60 M5 & M6

1st of all I don't wish to start a flame about these two cars because i'm a big big fan for the ///M cars for a long time.
I like these 2 cars so much that I want to get one, but since the E60 M5 and the M6 have been unreliable with there SMGIII, VANOS, steering angle etc...
and these are only the common problems. I've done my search for a long time on many boards and with friend all are the same. I think BMW still didn't solve the main problem. People are getting them until now, even with all these recalls.
One the other hand is the HIGH fuel & oil consumption, which can be accepted for their weight.
the looks IMO are ok.

so if you are so deep in love of one them, with all these problems, would you get one or shop somewhere else?

^^I agree...there is just something that the car offers that just offsets the bad reliablity...maybe its the fact that it looks like it could maul 99% of the cars on the road and carry 4 people in great comfort or even 5 in a pinch...(for the M5 anyway)

I hate to get frist production cars as I've always been burned by them. Now i wait at least a year untill all the problems were ironed out and go for it. I'd get an '07 M6/M5 now if I was in the market.

The first production year of any M car is never a good experience. Remember what happened with the 2001 E46 M3? BMW fixed the problems with the E46 M3 and have gone on to sell many units that are problem free (for the most part lol) By the end of 2007 the E60 M5 E63/64 M6 should be problem free beside the high fuel & oil consumption which is a given with a high-revving V10 with 500hp!

Cheers

I had no problems with my e60M5. Although I wasn't in love with the looks, and it got about 10mpg around town (horrible), I still would buy one again. The good characteristics far outweigh the bad ones IMO. I love M cars...

If you're worried about the SMG, buy a 6-Speed as they're out now.

As for the first year car comments, we had a 2000 E39 M5 that never had a problem for the 25K miles we owned it.
