I have a base '05 987 as a daily driver and I'm just about due for new tires. I have the 4 OEM Michelin PS2's which are great but I have heard there are other great looking similar performing tires for less $$. So what do you guys recommend for just regular daily driving/commuting? Also the rears have worn more than the fronts so can I change just the rears for now and drive another 5k on the fronts before changing those? Can I mix and match front/rear brands?

For a DD, Hankook V12 tires are a very viable option. Don't mix and match brands...

 

+1 I really like my Hankooks and like Scott says don't mix these with the PS2s.

 

Z1 Star Spec, but don't mix and match.

 

if you just use your car as DD. Hankook V12 will do the job for a lot cheaper

 

Hankook V12 on my Cayman S as well and no regrets, great tire for DD.

 

i almost got the V12s too. my buddy is a tire guy... he talked me into a set of Vredestein Sessantas... only $100 more, and i've owned vredesteins before... great tire.

 

Just got continental extreme contacts DW installed all around...pretty friendly on the wallet and it has had good reviews...only time will tell. Do not mix and match!

 

I am a fan on the dunlop z1 starpecs. great performance and a good look to boot.

as far as mix and match. it is undesirable performance wise but if its just a DD and you dont want to spend the extra cash. you will be fine.

 

Toyo T1R.....Quiet.....Good dry and wet traction

Toyo will be significantly less expensive than Michelin

 

Agreed, sounds like Hankook will suit your needs just fine...

 

I would tell you to stay away from Pirelli tires. Definitely had bad experiences with them and tire guys tell me they hate them.

 

What size are your front and how much tread is left ? I could be interested in those. pm me with the specs and price please.

 

Anyone have any experience with the Nitto NT05s. I have heard really good things about those.

 

Cars are not aware of the name on the side of the tire so as long as the traction capabilities are simular you can mix brands. You should maintain identical speed ratings & don't mix all-season & summer tires. If driving in the rain it's good to have 5 3/2's tread depth minimum.

That being said: Michelin & Porsche accept no substitute!
