emailadam is infamous around these parts
Power Steering

Some people made the same complaints when power steering was introduced in a Porsche. They moaned how it wasn't a real Porsche anymore without the heavy steering. That a woman could drive it. These are the same people complaining now.

Who would buy a car with no power steering now?

Anyone????

That's what I thought.

Adam,

The point was not that anyone didn't want power steering, it was the point that the power steering was sufficient. The "electric" assisted power steering makes the steering even smoother and that is what the complaint is.

Personally, I prefer the feedback but honestly, I'll take it either way.

Some new pics of the upcomming 918. Intesting to see the design language is towards flatter surfaces, not the curves of the 991.

I really think the Cayman will be like a baby 918. Which is a very good thing.

Excuse my ignorance but is a car like that able to be used as a daily driver or is it like a Cayman R with no AC, radio, etc, etc...?

That's sexy as hell. Though out of my price league, definitely a car I would want to hit the track with.

I'd assume it should be daily drivable, but on the extreme end of things like a Carrera GT. Actually probably a bit easier than a CGT because I'm assuming it'll be PDK rather than a finicky manual. Just a guess, but I bet Porsche will go that way.

This is one hell of a good looking car.. it comes complete with a BBQ grill on top :-) . I bet this car would not be approved for sale in the USA as is (need to prevent stupid people from touching a hot exhaust). I would drive that thing every day... promise!! HOT!!!

Since it's a hybrid and they are actively bragging about the excellent fuel economy, I suppose Porsche is intending this to be a daily driver. But as hawc points out, a daily driver on the extreme side...

I could live with that one as a DD...

The 991 is starting to look like a two door Panamera, and likely attracts a similar audience.

The Boxster (hopefully the Cayman) and the new 918 are obviously going to be the more sporting group. They appear to share a very similar design language (amazing and purposeful). Being visually paired with that car is good news for the Boxster/Cayman platform, as these cars will likely be more enthusiast/performance oriented, rather than luxury/GT.

My guess. I actually like the flatter panels and revised headlights. In photos I thought it was getting into SLK territory, but in person it looks like its moving in the right direction.

Some more shots of the new 918. Again, interesting for the design language which is definitely more 981 than 991.

Definately!
The sharp edges on the rear fenders ond on the inside of the front fenders are very much 981.

While we're talking about the whole 'design language' thing, I took some shots of a customer's CGT today at the dealership (probably in for a new $35,000 clutch ) and I couldn't help but notice how many design themes have been carried over from this nearly 10 year old design to the new 981!

1) Strong continuous accent line - included integrated spoiler - across the entire back of the car (not through the light I know, but pretty close)

2) Shape of headlight housing in general as well as the look of the projector lamps inside in particular (not stacked I know, but very similar)

3) Relatively flat fenders (no crease, but quite flat compared to the 911 of the time)

4) Door mounted mirrors and flat rear fenders too. And of course the side air intake which you can't see.

Remarkable that the 981 shares so much with the 10 year old CGT and the about to be released 918!

BTW, does anyone know the name of the designer at Porsche responsible for the 981 and 991? We can all name Bangle and Walter d'Silva, but what about Porsche?

You know, I only glanced at them... I mean, I know what they look like but I haven't actually studied it and now that you posted those pics, you really realize how many styling cues they've carried into the 981.

Me personally, I'm glad... I think the Carrera is a hot looking car.
