Boxster S Turbo Upgrade or Supercharger

I'm sure that this subject has been pushed around a time or two on this board. Anyone have any experience with either a twin turbo upgrade or a supercharged Boxster S?

getting tpc's supercharger this nov
for the dollar....good buy but not the power you need to race in gt class...60horsepower at the crank.....fills in the sweetspot at 2700-5500 rpm then flat...nice for autocross or kicking someones *** at the light.....the tt set up fro gemballa, ttp, ruf are great but 20000 each....couple places send out to bore the current block to 3.4 to europe...18000....dropping a 996 3.4.....good idea...my mech couldnt give me a price

if i get to wheel to wheel with the supercharger...was thinking about nitrous....guy in cali did it with his after swapping to 3.4....would just need extra power on the straight to keep up with the others in the gt class..

lI talked to TPC awhile ago, they said they were having problems with the Boxster S Supercharger upgrade. Compression was too high with the S and heat was a factor, and I'm sure preignition as well........they were only able to get 40hp out of the upgrade, which for $5k+ didn't make sense. They must have figured out all the bugs...

How much is their upgrade?

I have a supercharged Audi...much smoother than my turbo cars, the Allroad and the 996TT.

Let me know how the upgrade goes.

In my opinion, the best way to go without worring about engine reliability is with CAMSHAFT upgrade. Cams with headers , sport cats, and a good ecu program will take car to a whole new level.

I know this since I have built a 2000 Boxter S with above package for a friend of mine. Minimum 295 HP on that car, and bullet proof.

Mike Bavaro at Bodymotion told me he could do a Supercharger. Did one on a client's car and the car runs great. At $8k, however, you are halfway to a 450hp Gemballa upgrade...

How much was the Cams, Headers, Sport Cats, and ECU for your buddy? Do you do this for Sh@% and Giggles or do you have a shop that does this sort of thing?

Boxster S Horsepower

I have installed a few Boxsters an S turbo set ups and many TPC Superchargers.
Much less trouble and more dependable with the Supercharger.

Option 3 you could install:
Evo cold air
EsCarGo Headers
GHL Muffler
Row ECU Program
and get 295 Flywheel Horsepower without stressing the Engine

As you guys can see, this has been a long road...starting in September of '03. My Boxster S is now at FVD in Pompano Beach, FL undergoing a 3.8L 997S engine upgrade, headers, cats, 996 sport clutch, VarioPlus ECU, and lightweight flywheel upgrade.

Many of you are asking: Why put soo much into a 986 Boxster S? Well the simple answer is, I love the car. This is not an upgrade that will get me through until I get the itch for another TT. This is a car that I'll probably keep for life. (Famous last words, I know.)

The folks at FVD have been great. Professional, courteous, concientious about what they are doing.....I even received a call from Willie (owner) the other day while he was travelling in Deutschland. He wanted to assure me that, although the ECU originally planned for my car would not allow for the "Plus" option of the VarioCam engine, he was working out the interface to ensure that the one put into my car would. This would allow me to take advantage of this Plus cam option. This with no nickle and diming increase in cost!

I'll let you know how it feels when I pick it up in the coming weeks. Up to now, it has certainly been a good experience.

JP,
PM me your e-mail address again so I can send you the pics that Rhonda is taking of the engine swap at FVD. The pics are too large to attach to this site. The 3.8L is in the car!
