Took the Boxster to track today

Ah took the Boxster S to the track today. It was nice with the top down driving on the track.

Few things about the Boxster S. The handling is great. I turned off the PSM because i don't think it is needed anyways since the grip is amazing. Awesome brakes!! God I love the brakes they are so damn responsive and stop on a dime. I don't know but i think those brakes are actually better than a stock 996 C2 that we use to have at home. However, the short coming of the Boxster S is it's power. Not strong at all in the low rpm so coming out of some tight coners will cause it to be under the powerband. A friend of mine was driving a Cayman S and after today i don't think the Boxster S is a match at all with Cayman S. The torque that the Cayman S provide is way better compare to the Boxster S when it is coming out of an apex. Well anyways it was a fun day today. Hope to do some mods so it can bring up the torque at least a little bit?

Here are some pictures enjoy.

Great post! I felt the same thing about my 2000 S, hence all my mods. Starting to add mods does make the car feel much more responsive. Adding the Eibach springs ment I could carrry more speed thru corners thus you can get into the powerband much quicker. I also added the EVO intake, cargraphic muffler and B&M SSK. Now my project is the Imagine Auto Super charger to get a bit faster in the straits. Great fun car!

What do you think of the full SuperSprint racing package? The headers, by pass pipe and muffler? They provide a dyno on the site and my mom was thinking to add that to her car (that is her car btw, though she let me borrow it for the track events). We are putting on our Kinesis K28 this week but i think the stock rims actually looks better though the Kinesis sport a set of Advan A048R compound tires which should be interesting.

As for suspension, i think a set of JIC coil overs is a good choice since my dad have it on his TT and what brand will you recommed for tower bar other than Evo?

WoW Ok where do I start.

1st B&M SSK (great for the track)
2nd Evo Intake (air go in)
3rd The super sprint/dansk exhaust should be great (air go out)
4th GIAC chip
5th Coilovers (JIC/ Cross makes a good set)
6th Schrick Tower brace

Most of this stuff you can get online at vertexauto.com

then send me tose K28's to really make it loose weight!

Do you have any problems with the Evo intake?

I heard from the Porsche mech said that adding intake to the Boxster will affect the MAP sensor and that really threw my dad off. Can you comfirm if you have any problems with it at all? Thanks.

Btw, adding all this performance what kinda hp figure will it give to the Boxster S?

NEVER any issues at all with the MAF. I even added a K&N cone filter and still nothing.

As for HP with intake and exhaust I was at about 280 at th crank. You an add more with the GIAC flash, headers and high flow cats.

I hope to see +/- 400 with the S/C , headers, GIAC flash and high flow cats.

wow thanks for the info. Hopefully with these upgrades (intake, header, bypass and exhaust) i will be able to keep up with the Cayman S on the track. The Cayman S is quite a car!

Yea I looked at one the other day and really liked it. I do like my boxster and have a whole lot of blood sweat and tears in it. On the other hand I may just move to a C6 Z06 in a year.

I say forget about the SC and move to the Z06. A friend of mine with a C6 Z06 was at the track with me that day. God that thing is so freakin fast just by looking at it not to mention how it would feel from the driver seat!

Hey one more question for you. Let say in the future i want to do a facelift myself lol, will the turbo headlights + new GT3 RS bumper fit without changing the hood and fenders?

The S/C is already on just waiting for the program from GIAC. The C6 Z06 will be priced more in the lines of what I want to spend in a year. Here is the 6speed link to the 997GT3

If you want the turbo headlights then yes you will have to change fenders also. There are a few man. out there that make turbo look front bumper with out changing the fenders and headlights. PM me if you need help finding one.

The Boxster S brakes are figuratively better than the 996 C2 brakes because they are the same but the Boxster weights less...

The 986S might not be a match for the Cayman S, but try the 987S as a match for the Cayman S - all those I've talked to who have driven both say there is little difference on the track - not enough to pay the additional amount anyway, unless you like the coupe roof, but that the stiffness and lack of flex IS apparent.
