More power for my Boxster
I have a 2001 boxster, and I'm looking at the different options for boosting its power. what do you think of the fuel cell? is it worth putting a modified exhaust on it? or turbo? I'm not ready to sell it yet, but just want a bit more power.
Any suggestions? Thanks

boosting it literally? try imagine auto... site sponsor on right of the page... a fuel cell is only going to save a little weight, not add any power. The most power you can hope for with an exhaust is 1-3 hp... best bang for your buck are fabspeed bypass pipes, EVOMS intake (or desnorkle and KN), and reflash the ecu... should find nearly 15 rwhp.
Thank you much for the information! By the way, have you really been arrested for speeding? I'm curious, how much over the speed limit do you have to do to get a neglnce, and/or lose your license?
Exhaust was the best increase I did on my Boxster. I gained 25HP (dyno proven) with a custom Magnaflow system. And the price was great, under $800 installed. There is a place in Renton that did mine and could do your car too. It also shaved a lot of weight off the car. Ask the rest of the Seattle crew, they saw it on the dyno and were amazed. Intake didn't gain me anything except noise.

you guys are great! david, thanks for the info! i'll find out if that place in renton can get me in! i'm hoping the outcome will give my boxster a more "throaty" or deeper sound too! geeez! i'm sucha guy! hahaha!
I recently changed out my exhaust on my 99' and while I thought it did nothing performance wise at first my thoughts have now changed.
It seems like the car pulls a little(not much) better once it hits the 3.5krpm mark. I may be crazy but my exhaust has dynoed at +5hp at the wheels and weighs 16lbs less then stock, that could have something to do with it.
Just to give the car a little more pep I'm removing the spare tire(-25 lbs) and only filling up the tank 1/2 way(-?lbs) from now on.
A base 99' has 201 hp/weights 2778 stock=.07235 power to weight ratio
My 99' has 206hp/weights 2737 light =.07526 power to weight ratio
Just something to consider. There are tons of other stuff for Boxsters that have proven dyno results such are header, intake and forced induction,it's just a matter of which way you want to go. Oh yeah,if have the original Technology design wheels, lose then, they weight a butt load.

If you are in Spokane, any mods you do will actually decrease its output. True story!
If you do want to try some things, all the advice is good. De-snork get a little more flow into your air box, catbacks save weight and improve flow and can add power. I find it a bit hard to believe someone got 25 out of a magna flow but even if it were half that it would still be a good deal and probably make the car sound much better.
Good luck and let us know what you do.

I'm starting to notice that some vendors are selling a whole cat-back exhaust set up for Boxsters that are 00'+. If I can get +5hp at the wheels from just a muffler on my lower powered 99',pulling +15hp at the wheels on a freer flowing cat & muffler set up on a 00'+ shouldn't be too hard to imagine.
thank you so much for your information! it gives me tons of options to think about. i love getting ideas and info from those that have "been there..done that". Thanks again!
here is my goal....i go out with the seattle 6speed group. just so you know, the group consists of all men, a couple of GT3's, at GT3 R/S, an M6 BMW, a 996 TT, a 997 turbo, and more! Hence, my regular Boxster! hahaha! I try my little butt off to keep up, but as common sense would be...I CAN'T!! especially at take off's. grr! but...my little boxster DOES hold "her" own around twisties! Anyway, without upgrading to a totally diff. car, you see my dilema! I wanna keep up! hahha! Thank god that I can sort of hold me own. As they would say about me "you've got some ***** for a woman!". Personally, I think my ***** are bigger than my brain!
Here's the dyno of mine getting just shy of 240HP at the wheels.

You can't dispute that. That was with a custom Magnaflow with custom 2nd cat bypass. I ran it again 4 months later on the same dyno and got the same.
Here's a pic of the setup
