Audio Installer Recommendation in GTA
Audio Installer Recommendation in GTA
Hi Everyone,
I've almost closed a deal on an 08 C2S. Other than full leather, sports chrono and the Bose upgrade stereo it's pretty stock. I'm looking to replace the PCM with an aftermarket unit (I know i'll lose some functionality), but it's a lot cheaper to get Nav/Bluetooth/iPod/XM aftermarket than upgrading the PCM.
On that note, has anyone in the GTA replaced their PCM with a DD unit, and who would you recommend to do the install?
Thanks!

I had the deck replaced in my 996 and had bluetooth, sirius and ipod installed by a great company here in the GTA, i'll shoot you a PM with their info, they're not big but the work is phenomenal
Also, I got a few PMs from people asking me what I was looking at doing. Basically, I want to replace the PCM with a Pioneer AVIC-Z110BT. The unit includes iPod integration, Bluetooth, SD Card and Navigation. The clincher is their iPhone integration, and AVIC iPhone app. I'll probably just use the head unit and bypass the Bose amp. If it sounds really bad i'll do a complete speaker/amp replacement.

I kept my PCM and had them install the Tooki bluetooth, ipod & Sirius. Everything integrated and was controlled out of the PCM and therefore stayed stock
You can add GPS if you buy the nav module, but it's pretty expensive unless you find it on ebay cheap
Personally, i put the AVIC in my last 911 and didn't like the bluetooth and didn't like what it looked like after, it just doesn't look stock
Unless the GPS is a super must i'd keep it stock and go with the above solution. I'll PM you my contact info if you want to see & hear what mine looks like

GPS/Nav is a must for me. I've seen one 997 AVIC-Z110 install online, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed (http://avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.p...it=porsche+997). As for Blueooth, I've read a lot of good reviews so far on it.
if you take that pic to the guys i used they can most likely replicated it. they do a lot of their own fabrication and are good at it
it will probably be more cost effective to go w/the avic, but my preference will always be stock look, call me old school
again, the offer is there if you want to take a look/hear at my setup before you make the leap
the other thing you might want to check into and i don't know the answer to this (if the newer one work with it), but when i had my AVIC installed, it didn't work with my Bose amp, so i had to buy a 3rd party amp to replace it

As for the amp part, there's two options. One is bypass the amp and run the speakers off the headunit, and the second is to install a new amp/speakers. I know all about the Bose MOST fibre bus headache
. I'm leaning towards the first option, but that all depends on sound quality.

I went to Cromer Radio after I heard how many 911's they have worked on. They recommended a Kenwood 7100 Double Din ($13500 or the 9100 ($2600). You are gonna most likely have to change all your factory speakers and amps as the Bose doesn't work well with aftermarket head units. I have the regular speakers and they said my install is straight forward. Maybe if we go in together we can get a deal. Let me know. Search 'kenwood' in the 997 section you will see pics and threads on this topic. If you like the Pioneer I'll get that instead as they are both great units just tell me where and when so we can try to get a deal for 2 units.

I'm leaning towards changing everything out during my install. Once i've go my car and have settled on the equipment, i'll let you know. I'm going to the US this week to check out the car, and if all goes well, it should be here in two weeks.

I assume you meant Kromer Radio, and I have to say that they're probably one of the last places I would go - I had a bad experience with them sourcing some parts on my last car. They are seriously overpriced, the Kenwood DNX9140 can easily be bought in the GTA from an authorized dealer for around $1700. I'm leaning towards the Pioneer just because of all the iPhone goodies, but otherwise i'd go with Alpine (since that's what i've got now and like it a lot). I've heard good things about the Kenwood units, but I just don't like their user interface.

I'm also in the same boat - thinking of adding bluetooth and ipod. NAV would be nice but not a must.
Would like to keep the factory HU and BOSE speakers, etc...
Pfaff wants $850 for Ipod adapter and $1299 for Bluetooth, these prices are installed.
Anyone think these prices are crazy expensive, or do other shops charge similar for these installs?
