What year? Which PCM version? Do you have the telephone prep option from the factory?

2006 CS. it has the sim tray that comes out and you can see the contacts. pcm 2.1 i believe. black and orange gui.

im not sure if that constitutes a "prep" but will have to dig to find the sticker...

Sounds like PCM 2.1 to me. If you have the factory phone prep, then you should find the connectors for the phone module underneath the passenger's front seat. You can also run your VIN number to see if your car was originally equipped with it.

Sorry to resurrect this thread but i didn't get the conclusion to this missing phone module issue. My PCM on my 04 CT looks like this and it has the same SIM tray which springs out when pressed.

Tried inserting a SIM card but no success so do we need to but the 25 hundred dollar phone kit? or we're just missing something here?

Red face additional thoughts...

I was told that if you click the mail button and it says "mail not avaliable" than you need the phone module to enable that. our cars that have the sim tray and buttons, are "phone prepped" but are not fully functional until you buy the module. I have been trying to track one down on ebay or used somewhere at a cayenne turbo junkyard. lol.

There are much less expensive and very good alternatives such as those modules from Mobridge, Dennison, Nav-TV, etc. (sorry if I didn't spell those correctly). Google around a bit and you'll find lots of good stuff to get a phone working in your CS for less than 1/2 of what the dealer would charge...

(also the NAV-TV rear video). All work great!

The Dension GW500 + BTA1500 works great on mine.. and it also gives me USB memory stick music capabilities (I now have all my CDs - about 350 of them - on one 16GB memory stick), auxiliary audio input (think SatRadio) and iPod capability. Plus texting (which I have no intention of ever using..) Not a bad deal - can be gotten for a bit over $500..

+1

Haven't installed it yet but the Dension appears to be a great unit and I also loved the fact I could install it in the glovebox, out of sight, and plug in a USB drive loaded with songs. Check with Eric at Bumperplugs.com if you're interested. He just ran a special for 6speed members with a discount and free shipping and may extend it for you if you contact him right away. Eric was great to work with and sent an email loaded with info about the Dension unit. I ordered the Gateway "combo" unit like Dielenberger so I could use the Phone/Bluetooth option in the car.

Thanks for the additional inputs guys!

So I did a brief research on the cartronics versus the dension and found out that they are similar in how you access the ipod songs, playlists, artists, albums, etc and also the bluetooth phone functions functions through the PCM screen and steering wheel controls. (Am I right?)

Is there any other differences aside from...:

1. Dension has a USB mem stick input?

2. price of dension $480 ipod audio module + $101 bluetooth module/plug in = $581 versus cartronics at $799 ipod audio and bluetooth in one module.

3.

4.

5...

How about level of difficulty in DIY / installation. Sound quality, response time (buffering etc.) This would help me (and others) decide which one to get? Right now the $200 price difference is very attractive to me
