Sport Mode
Sport Mode
I've had the TT for several months now so I decided to look back through the owners manual to see if I've forgotten any features...
First thing I discovered is the "sport" button on the console. I've selected this mode in the past but didn't use it much because it stiffened the ride too much. I did like the responsiveness though.
So I discovered that I can select the sport mode and also select the "normal or comfort" selection for the suspension. Gee, this made all the difference in the world. Great response and smooth ride combined. I've been missing a lot.
Other than feeling like a dummy for not discovering this sooner - my question is how many here select the sport mode for daily driving?
It really changes (improves) the performance of an already great performing SUV.

I am not sure how it changes the V6 model. On the turbo it changes the throttle response, exhaust sound, transmission shift pattern and switches suspension to lowest height and stiffens shocks.
In the V6 and diesel (S too?) if you don't have the air suspension, all it does is adjusts the shift point and throttle response.
In my CD I do get a "better" exhaust note, but that is due to the RPM range it stays in vs something changing in the exhaust. I can get the same sound in normal mode and switch it to manual.

I never used it either! It's too bad the Sport Mode cannot be selected as default. Otherwise we forget. All of the little tweaks in sport add up to a much more responsive ride as long as you select normal for the shocks.

I have never understood why cars do not "remember" sport mode. Is it some emissions thing that forbids them? Makes no sense. It becomes second nature to go through the button presses upon startup, but it's still annoying.
They have no problem remembering PASM settings, so why not Sport too?

I barely use it. I sit in a lot of bumper to bumper traffic and the cars gets a little too twitchy for my taste. Used it a few times on road trips and it never fails to put a grin on my face.
Higher shift points + increased throttle response = higher fuel consumption. So think of the default as "Economy Mode". And I agree; Sport Mode + urban driving = oxymoron.

I assumed the reason the key/ignition was on the left side was so our right hands were free to press the sport button as soon as we fired up the engine? Kidding, kind of.
I always use sport mode. My start-up routine is ignition, sport button, normal chassis. I am always in low suspension mode.
