GTS/Turbo Bumper Swap + Working DRLs
#46
The dealer is right. The DRLS are in the headlights for the Turbo/GTS and the bumper only has the horizontal parking lights and yellow turn signals, whereas the S has an extra set of lights in the bumper (yellow turn signal, thin horizontal parking lights, and horizontal DRLs). The bumper conversion kits out there use the Turbo wiring harness, which is why you lose the DRLs (don't have the right pins).
I used the orignal harness from the S, but I built my own harness adapter for the Turbo/GTS bumper lights to make them work properly and also allow the horizontal LEDs to work as both DRLs and parking lights. They do require a couple simple electronic components.
I've been traveling and haven't had a moment to do a full write up on how to build the adapter yet.

Do the Turbo Led have the Thin horizontal parking lights ? I really like it on my cayenne s the thin horizontal parking lights

Unlike the Non-Turbo / GTS DRL, the Turbo / GTS look the same wither it's just the DRL or the Headlights + DRL on... as already stated here, by default on the Turbo / GTS the DRL are built into the Headlights (so the lower LEDs normally only on when you turn on the actual headlights).
So if you don't replace the headlights (which I didn't), the only difference is in the Daytime, only the LEDs are on, and at night, the LEDs and the Headlights are on. I'll try and post a few pics this week with the DRL (LEDS) on, and the Headlights + LEDs on.

So to make the wiring harness adapter, here are the parts that are needs (all VAG so you can shop around a bit). I'll post a detailed writeup with pics when I actually build them (hopefully this weekend):
2ea 1J0-973-824: Housing (female socket that the wiring harness will plug into)
2ea 1J0-973-724: Housing (male socket that plugs into the light bar)
2ea 000-979-134: Wire set (two wires with the male pins (goes in the female housing) on both ends. You need 4 wires total)
3ea 000-979-133E: Repair wire (single wire with two female ends (goes in the male connector). You need 3 wires total (I don't know if dropping the "E" with result in a "Wire set" like I have for the other wires)
As noted above, the female wire ends go into the male housings and the male pins go into the female housing.
Based on snp_cayenne's diagram you'll use 4 of the male pins in each connector (plugging into the wiring harness) and 3 of the female pins in the opposite connector (plugging into the light bar).
Since the wires come with the same pins on each end my plan is to simply cut them all in half (actually I'll trim a lot of excess wire out) which will give me the needed 6 and 8 pins. Then solder everything up and heat shrink it. As I said, I'll do a full writeup with pics when I get them done.

What a difference! Now I have to do this upgrade. Is this the Suncoast full "Sport Design Package?" Thx

I got all my pins and connectors from here: http://www.automotive-connectors.com...vities&dir=asc
They also offer them with pigtails, which makes them much easier.

I worked with ECS to get some of the parts (male connectors and female wires), but they had some issues identifying the female connector and it's wires. I found another source though that found the correct stuff (friend with a dealer number).

Yeah I tried them after we talked, but (at least at that point) they didn't list prices for the parts I could identify and said something about them being restricted parts. I tried emailing them but didn't get a response.

Here is a pic of the "DRLs" enabled after using snp_cayenne's schematic for building the adapters (my DIY thread seems to have vanished???).
Thank you again snp_cayenne for figuring this out. I like plug-and-play options where modifications to the factory parts aren't required.

Nicely done gnat! Actually I just did the exact same thing to my Cayenne S. However, although the "DRLs" works correctly, it seems that it's not very bright and noticeable during the sunny days. I'm not sure if it's because of my wiring or it's just how it is. Thinking about replace it with the techart DRLs.
