OEM Back Up Camera
OEM Back Up Camera
Can anyone tell me about a legit OEM back up camera? Or where to buy a used OEM one? I bought this http://www.jemkosystems.com/factory-integrated-backup-camera-for-porsche-cayenne-1.html which claims to be "OEM" and is not as the installer told me he'd have to add things and splice into wires and it was going to be messy. So, maybe someone can help me here. I have a 2014 Cayenne S that didn't come with a back up camera. Thanks!
I bought this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Car-Video-In...6998d5&vxp=mtr
And this:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/PORSCHE-CCD-...item3cd862f42d
Had them installed by Nav-Tv here in Florida. This combination works 90% of the time. The other 10% the camera just decides not to turn on. Reason for this? Made in China... may just be my unit, but who knows. Otherwise, totally worth it!
BTW, this interface was for the CDR-31 unit. If you have the PCM, look for that one.

The camera is the one I already bought and returned from Jemko. The video interface unit appears to be one made in China and the Jemko is actually better, but not OEM and not plug 'n play. So, I'd prefer something that's OEM.
You are correct. What you have is the same thing I installed. Although, im sure yours is also made in China... Either way, it is plug and play other than soldering one wire to the back of the PCM. Then you just run the wires.... I do not think there is a way to have an OEM camera installed if you did not order it from the factory.
Seems that way! Thanks for info.
My electronics guy said he has a source for Porsche back-up cameras and can do the install.
(Edit: I found out he doesn't have a source for an OE camera.)

My local Porsche dealership has an installer they use and they have recommended one thats close to OEM and is $1,800 installed. Does that sound about right?
Your dealer with something close to OEM could be using the eBay $160 camera.
Edit: Removed hearsay OEM camera retail price and reference to availability.

Right, but they need to module to make the camera work. The module is where the $500 to $1000 extra cost comes in plus install. I think Nav TV has one that most installers recommend.
I was mistaken about the availability and costs of the OE camera. I just had the backup camera installed today and my guy said no OE parts from the dealer even when he does work for the dealer. He uses the navtv interface and a camera in the handle that looks like the eBay one previously mentioned. All the wires are concealed behind the trim and the PCM screen has the menu options for color and contrast but no grid lines. Navtv programming sheet says no grid lines with an after market camera.
The Jemko system appears much more affordable and has the gridlines ...$529 complete:

Looking for an OEM solution. I can buy any other OEM part for a Porsche, so I'm confused why the back up camera cannot be purchased??
is this verified for 2011 up? I'm picking up a 2014 base/platinum without camera tomorrow. asked the dealer to program the pcm but they have no clue what to do. do you know what I need to tell them?
