BlueSpark Pro+Boost Gen2
The Gen1 was only programmable by and at BlueSpark. With the proprietary USB adapter and software, Gen2 can be reprogrammed on a PC.
I also learned that careful cable routing is imperative. Temperature affects electrical resistance. That's why resistance specs are standardized at 70F (or 20C). I initially used cable routing of convenience, which subjected it to two high temp areas: the left exhaust manifold heat shield and the EGR heat tube sleeve. I too had early minor engine fault codes, and slowly came to the realization that over heated cables were to blame. When I pulled them out for re-routing, a actually found sections of melted plastic.
Ohms law states V=IR. Given that regulated voltage is the constant, and resistance is the variable, amperage is going to fluctuate. These are physical facts. The theory component is that when amperage fluctuates outside ECM/ECU parameters, codes get thrown.
Got a replacement cable from BlueSpark, routed it well away from the exhaust manifold and EGR, and tuning box performance has been flawless ever since.
Side note: I anticipate BlueSpark to get more aggressive in the US market soon. Don't be surprised if you see them on eBay/Amazon before the end of the year.

So the fault codes I got initially were caused by the BlueSpark cabling, not by the box itself. On the replacement cable it's been 100% error free

Just to clarify, you are talking about codes with the Gen2, not the codes that the old Gen1 caused correct?
Correct. Both BlueSpark and myself were oblivious to the now proven fact that Gen1 was not engineered to cope with the EPA mandated version of the Cayenne Diesel engine. I subsequently worked with them to render two of the five Gen2 maps compatible with the US-spec engine.

Thanks again Greg for taking a look at it for me, but I'm still not feeling anything from it or seeing an MPG improvement
If anyone is interested in picking up a unit cheap, I've put it in the for sale section:

After flashing it with the U.S.-spec software, I re-pinned it identical to mine. Doesn't make sense how I get 0-60 close to 6 seconds, and have recorded as high as 37.9 mpg. And that's running in Sport mode probably 90% of the time. Other than cosmetic differences, our cars - and thus performance + mpg - should be much closer

I agree that it doesn't make sense. Guessing either there is something subtly wrong with my car and/or after the G1 I developed an unrealistic expectation somewhere (though that would only explain the feel, not the lack of MPG boost).
Either way, I'm done fooling with it (and the associated wifely grief) so hopefully I can get something back from it. If not though it will hang around and maybe get tried again should something be discovered about my engine.

Gotta be a car issue after reprogramming and repinning yours, I installed and tested it on my own Cayenne for the best part of a week: nearly identical performance and mpg as recorded by my own box with the very same settings

I am sending my Gen 2 unit back to Bluespark for testing. The engine cut out I previously experienced at the E7 level occurred again at the C5 setting so they asked me to send it back for testing and see if the unit is at fault. Bluespark has been very timely in response to my emails and hopefully it won't take to long to find out what is going on and get a fix.
Bluespark sent me a replacement unit. They did include a bypass plug that plugs into the wiring harness if you want to revert to stock. That beats taking the cover off if you had a problem and the weather was not nice.
Hello Greg,
Following your thread and Gnat's one I ended ordering one module, received it yesterday and bolt it tonight.
It is preset C6, my feeling after a 25 miles road test is better torque/power at midrange and slightly better at top end.
I will pick up my VBox from the 911 and check a few times for a good comparison.
My need isn't better MPG but power only and especially top end, I believe I will switch the bridge to D and E in the next days.
Regards,
P.

I switched to E6 tonight, midrange seems a bit more powerfull and the top end holds better the torque.
I would say my Cayenne runs close to a X5/6 4.0d.
So far I'm pretty happy with this module.

Definitely no melted areas on anything.
