Diesel Issues....
Diesel Issues....
I am the proud owner of a 2014 Diesel and needless to say I have been a bit distraught over the issues surrounding my car.
I was somewhat concerned by any lack of communication from Porsche but yesterday I received some rather good news. A letter from Porsche North America is obviously full of apologies, but did offer one great bit of news.....the original 4 year/50,000 mile warranty is being extended to 6 years/100,000 miles.
I love this car and despite the issues had no plans to get rid of it. Porsche has obviously stepped up to the bar and their extension of the warranty will no doubt be a very expensive proposition for them. But then again, I've had the car for almost two years and have not had any warranty issues.....none.
So thank you Porsche for taking some of the sting out of this.

I just got a PCA e-mail that said VW is going to give us Diesel Cayenne owners a $500 gift card and $500 service credit like they did with all the VW's! The fix for 15-16 models will be a software update and for 13-14 models a new catalytic converter and a software update! Hopefully the software update will not degrade performance or mileage! Cheers
15-16 models? they don't make a 16 model in the US. I think P should let you trade in your diesel for what you paid for it as long as you bought it brand new- not used. All the used buyers should get the credits etc.....

I have a 2016 diesel. I took delivery end of July (order placed in April, when Porsche began making "16s)

I do have a question though... if P notified you and said they would let you have a trade credit for what you bought it for- would you do it?
For me I wouldn't want to trade for anything other than another Diesel! My 2015 is my second Diesel and I have loved them both! The only reason I traded my 13 for a 15 is it had a lot more options and matched the color of my boat! The pulling power of the Diesel combined with fuel mileage and handling of a Porsche is the ideal setup for me! I just hope the software fix doesn't become a downgrade for me! If I can't feel or see a difference I will be a happy boater! Cheers

But to answer your question, no wouldn't, I really like it the way it is
I have the privilege of driving a 2014 CD and 2015 TTS. I received the same letter. The extended warranty was a good first step. I do remain concerned that the "fix" will adversely affect performance, mileage, value, require more trips to the dealer to replace the urea or some combination of the foregoing.
Porsche and VW have a real public relations problem on their hands and I'm not sure they fully understand that. Even the generous goodwill letter we received had language which caught me the wrong way. It said "Both we and our engine supplier..." By using the phrase "engine supplier" it suggested to me they are trying to distance themselves from VW. It is their freaking parent company and do any of us really believe that Porsche did not fully understand what was happening to our CD engines from an engineering standpoint? That is as big as an indictment as knowing the cheat.
Did you catch the interview on NPR with Matthias Mueller Monday? He is spinning this as a technical misunderstanding of the rules and not a lie or deception. It really is disgraceful to listen to.
I really love my Pcars. Other members of my family have driven VW's and Audis for decades. They have never owned diesels and yet they have said they will never buy another car from the VW group again. I'm not sure VW really gets that corporate deception cuts deeply.
I convinced my wife that the CD would be a great car for us in part because of "clean diesel". She is giving me a hard sell to get out of the CD.
Like everyone else I am waiting to see what Porsche is going to do and how it is going to affect our cars.
So far I am not happy or impressed.

Tomorrow I'm doing my first oil change myself.

Here is my 13 Diesel hooked up to my 27ft Bennington pontoon boat! It still amazes me how effortlessly it pulls! Fuel economy drops to 15 mpg, but that is twice what I was getting with my Hummer! Cheers
