Advice on CPO 2014 Cayenne GTS

Hi All,

I’ll be in the market for a CPO 2014 Cayenne GTS (prefer white) in the next couple of months. Since this will be my first Porsche, I’m looking for general “ownership & things to look out for” advice from current/previous CGTS owners.
Coming from Honda/Acura experience, can I expect similar reliability from CGTS other than the typical tear & wear (oil change, brake jobs & tires). So far, I only see a few CPO 2014 CGTS listing on Autotrader, but would have more choices for Used (non-CPO). I’m skeptical to go with non-CPO, because the lack of knowledge on these vehicles & want to avoid “lemon” if any. Please share your thoughts & advice!

Thanks,
-Tom

Hi Tom,

I'd suggest reading: https://rennlist.com/forums/cayenne-...his-first.html

That should give you a rough idea of what you're looking at with a used Cayenne..

As far as Honda/Acura reliability - we only wish. If that's a deal breaker for you - you'll be unhappy with a Cayenne. Service cost is likely to be much higher than your Acura if you use a dealer. Parts are $$$ (sometimes absurdly so), and most dealers are well over $100/hour labor rates now.

Good idea to go with a CPO even if you have to pay a bit more - the Porsche CPO program - if you have a good/friendly dealer relationship - covers almost anything that breaks on a Cayenne. My first one - an '06 S - which had CPO - probably cost Porsche $10-12,000 in "stuff" that was troublesome. The newer series is generally more reliable than the first series - and I can't really complain a lot with my '11 CTT - it's crossed the US 4 times now without an inkling of trouble.

Good luck with your search..

You're really keeping it narrow by only looking at '14 GTS. I'd broaden your parameters as then you are more likely to find that white one. And agree, CPO for these machines all the way. (as an aside my cayenne has been way more reliable than my wife's pos mdx).

Don - Thanks for the link & details info! I'll definitely go with CPO route. Will check out the link for sure.

Ronan - Agree, I've noticed there are several white or nice/clean black CPO 2015 & 2016 out there. That would push it over my original budget, I'm so tempting but in no rush.

Thanks again, guys!

Tom,

I think what Ronan meant was to also look at the 2014 in S & TT flavors & in other years, in addition to the GTS alone.

The TT's have the GTS options plus more, & I've seen a number of the CS's out there optioned-up with the air suspension & other options which come with the GTS.

Also, you can go to older than 2014 & still find them with CPOs, since the dealer just needs max. 8 years from date first sold & under 80K+/- miles on it, in order to add the CPO on acceptable condition Cayennes. The Porsche CPO goes out to "up to" 10 years & 100K miles.

Also be aware that you can assume the balance of an existing CPO - but only if bought from either a Porsche Dealer or private party. If it passed through another dealer or auction, then that event immediately cancels the Porsche CPO (pg $ of the CPO booklet).

So beware of some less honest Porsche dealers wanting to charge you full CPO price on a Cayenne with an assumable P-CPO with another 12-23 months left on it! I had that happen & ultimately lost out on a nice & fully equipped as we needed CS with 18 months P-CPO remaining who claimed it wasn't assumable, & it took me the extra time to find out the assumability rules from PCNA customer service!

So the year range for a 958 GTS with CPO can also be extended for your search, but make sure that any 2011 or 12 had the AH08 Recall for the cam adjuster bolts done before damage was done to the engine.

We don't want the AS, so we are looking for 2008-14 CS with the NA V8 <60K+/- miles, with the factory rear camera & tow hitch option (or add one or other), as our tow vehicle. Plus we don't want a black one - so we're very limited too.

I can have my long time P-mechanic do a PPI on older ones if local - if without a CPO, so that may be another avenue for you if you have a local Porsche shop/dealer whom you trust implicitly for a PPI.

Happy Hunting!
Tom

Tom_T,

Wow, thanks for the great info on CPO topic! I'm planning to purchase from a local Porsche dealer if possible for long term service support. We'll def take the time to find a low mileage/ clean CPO so we can enjoy years after. I originally wanted a 2013-2014 to get that NA-V8 exhaust note, but wouldn't mind to check out 2015.

Happy Hunting for sure!

Tom,

From 2015 on, Porsche switched the S from the N.A. V8, to the 3.6L TT V6 from the Macan Turbo S or S, & now only the CTT's are V8's, but turbo'd. Starting in 2019 on it is/will be the downsized 2.9L TT in the S, & I'm not sure if the Turbo V8 continues.

I have no idea how well the turbo V6's would work for us towing on longer trips & up grades, since they usually work the smaller turbo engines harder at higher RPMs when under load, which translates to noise & vibration, which gets old on longer XC trips.

However, if you're not towing, then it probably won't be an issue for you with a 2015 CS with the 3.6L TT V6.

Also, since you're looking at a P-CPO anyway, why not look nationally for a nice one, cuz your local & any P-dealer will honor the CPO. Some will deliver it anywhere at there cost, or you can pay for transport if not covered, or ....

..... road trip time!

I saw a nice white 13 or 14 GTS with a CPO at a West Coast dealer this past weekend on AutoTrader.

That one & others will be easy to find on the Porsche website's pre-owned (used car) locator, & you can set the search distance, as well as other parameters.

Cheers!
Tom

I would definately go with the 2015+ car (facelifted). Looks much more modern (the rear of the 2011-2014 Cayennes is starting to show its age...) and if you can find one with LED headlights - those look the best by far.
