PCCB brake questions for 2012 CTT possible purchase

Hi All, considering a purchase of a 2102 CTT or a 2013 Cayenne GTS, both with PCCB's. Both Cayennes have about 100k miles MOL. I've owned several P Cars including a 2013 Cayenne S, 2004 996, 2001 996 TT but none with PCCB's. What do I need to be aware of, questions to ask dealers or shops doing PPI's etc. such as rotor chips, thickness, weight ? I found PCCB pad sets for around $600 per front or rear set from FCP Euro, but didn't see the carbon rotors. What is the current price for OE carbon rotors and has anyone come up with an alternative to OE carbon rotors? IIRC $10k to $20k PCCB brake jobs were a possibility.

PCCBs are fantastic and after having them on my RUF 997, I retrofitted 958 versions to my 957 Turbo S.

I won't own another Porsche where they were an option without them, even if I have to add them after the fact - that's how good they are. Instead of getting worse with heat, they get better, they make virtually zero dust, they don't surface rust when they get wet, the rotors will last the life of the vehicle if street driven, you might have to replace pads at 100k miles, and the stopping power is fantastic.

However, there is risk of damaging them and replacements are thousands of dollars each. I do all my own work on my cars and when it's time for new tires I remove the wheels and take the wheels and new tires to the tire shop rather than taking the car and new tires. I use two guide pins when removing wheels so they can be slid away from the vehicle without risk of dropping them onto the rotor.

Regarding your PPI question, both sides of every rotor need to be looked at carefully for any chios (this is what happens if a wheel is dropped on one during removal) and the surfaces of the rotor should be smooth and shiny. If there are dark, spotry areas, that's not good as the rotor will need to be replaced.

This is a picture of what a PCCB rotor in perfect shape should look like.

Thanks, great information! Nice 914, BTW!! Any chance you get over to Knoxville for Dragon. Devil's Triangle and other TN drives?
I know the rotors used to be about $5k each a few years ago, has that changed up or down price wise? I've also seen folks here installing used PCCB rotors and other components.
Another question would be noise. I'm OK with it, but my wife was a bit annoyed by sporadic semi-metallic (?) brake squeal on our 2004 996 that was tracked occasionally. I have no intention of tracking a CTT and would likely be a nice day car and occasional driver.

I've done the Rennsport Dragon Rally once. Some idiot in a Chevy almost totalled my RUF 911 (Killboy got the whole sequence), so that was probably and "1 and done" event for me as it's not worth it.

If properly installed with the correct OEM pad dampeners (the adhesive rubber pads with the prongs that lock into the caliper pistons), they don't make noise - definitely not like racing pad brake squeal.

Love the 914 - was the one that started it all for me.

Thanks for the insight!
OMG, I hope he missed you! Understood why you'd be sour on the Dragon. It's over-hyped anyway with waaay to many cops & radar traps, noobs and / or idiots on it to spoil your drive. Once I was stuck behind a noob Sportster rider driving under the speed limit for miles before I could pass her. Just moved back to TN and looking forward to driving the Devil's Triangle again. Lots less hype, higher speed limits, less traffic, less cops, etc. Hope it hasn't changed much from a few years ago.

Hard to believe, but zero contact...I was braced for impact...never happened. I didn't love the road either and much preferred some of the other roads in the area, especially the one that parallels the river with much faster sweepers, better views, and very little traffic.

Q: Has anybody checked out this German vendor as an alternative to PCCB rotors ? If so, are there any shops selling these in the US?
