Question About PPI

A friend of mine is considering an 07 F430 with less than 1000 miles, it's an one owner car, CarFax showed clean record, and the factory warranty is good until 2010. He's wondering if he should still ask the dealership to take the car through PPI?

I doubt it's worth the effort or expense at 1,000 miles.

The car is new and still under warranty, and if being sold by an F Car dealer most likely it's a flip.

I would not worry about it!

I agree. However, I would still check the service history to see if there were any unusual or consistant issues.

Thanks guys for your input. As far as service history, I'll let him know to check with the dealer on any possible persistent issues. As the car only has around 800 miles is it due for any type of factory maintenace service?

TIA

Predicated on when the car went into service, (delivery date) its possible it may be due or near for an annual @ approx. $2,000

I'd want a paint meter run over it and a quick check of clutch wear and over-revs.

I would talk to people local with F-cars find out who the good techs are and get someone GOOD to look it over. When it comes to Ferraris it is so easy to get ripped off by owners/and dealers alike but normally people who have had a few cars know the right people to talk to. You really cant put a price on knowing the right people when it comes to dealing with Ferrari.

Jaime was spot on with the over-rev check and clutch wear check because those are biggies when it comes time to make a warranty claim. Another thing to look at is under the front bumper people normally tear the crap out of the cars on driveways and parking blocks.

Hey Joe what's up...how have you been lately? What are you driving these days?

Yeah I know about the peace of mind...but the dealer is asking for a 25K deposit before they would even send the car out for PPI! The attitude...

I think you are driving yourself crazy about this purchase.

A car that new and still under warranty does not need a PPI.

Save yourself the aggrivation. If you like the car and feel the price is fair, go for it.

If not then just move away from it.

Not unusual for F dealers to ask for a deposit to ensure your sincerity. Any cars I have sold privately I do not allow a test drive w/o a non-refundable deposit, and I make the prospective buyer write on the check in his own hand writing that the deposit is non-refundable.

1000 miles on an '07 with full warranty ='s me not needing a PPI. Just look at the service history and verify no wreck or paint work which is very easy to find on a Ferrari. Buy one and start paddleing away. I love mine.

Well, I'm about ready to wire the funds but the dealer is now telling me that due to a new tax rule they need to first collect 6% of the sales tax (they're out of state), and I'll pay the rest when I title it here in CA later. Have you guys heard about this?

TIA

That's a red flag not to do that and don't.

You pay sales tax in CA only when you register the car. Ask the seller to fax you a copy of his Calif sales tax certificate which he most likely will not have.

I have seen this a few times before. the seller pockets the 6%.

Best to ask now the issues I outlined at https://www.6speedonline.com/forums/...=102958&page=3 #34 or you could be in big trouble.

Don't take any chances when dealing out of state.
