F-430 - should I?

It would be my first Ferrari -- I would get the Spider/Spyder

And what is the real waiting time on an order (I hear dealers like repeat customers and I would be a newbie). I am in New York and understand the first year run is sold out but that the second year will include the cab in the states.

Thanks.

it should be a tremendous car but i'd guess you'd be unable to get one remotely close to MSRP for "years". that said, the car will likely be worth the $50k or so premium that you'll probably be able to pay about a year after they come out. and, you shouldn't lose too much of that. then again, you'd lose that much on a pcar costing 1/2 to 1/3 as much. outside of the CGT, porsche doesn't have a convertible remotely close in performance, weight and excitement.

I say give it a year and let all the kinks be found now. I am also most certain that the HP will be increased the next year to combat the rise in the HP from the lambo camp.

They never added HP in the 360 from 1999 to 2005 so I'm not sure why they'd do so on the 430. Lambo doesn't have anything on the Fcar since one is a lightweight RWD sports car and one is a much more numb attempt at the same.

people are not being realistic on 430's availability. it's not a car that u can get whenever u want even u're willing to pay top dollar.

question is, do u want to play the game or be played?

I would put down some cake now for a car in spring 2006 --

As for being played, I assume I will have to pay over list (+-$50k), but should I go on a dealer wait list or play the open market in 2006?

Thoughts?

50k over seems to be right. however, when the spider comes out might be 100k over. at least this is what happened when the 360 spider came out. just need to find the right one.

yep, that $100k is about what i figure to start the first year of the spider and then maybe $50k at the end of the first year.

my father and i went into the local ferrari dealer over the holidays. he was insistent on getting one of the 1st 430's. i told him he was crazy but he gave me one of those "watch this" looks. needless to say, money didn't talk. mgr said they are allocating 430's to people who have been on the waitlist for a 360 and that really pissed pops off so he replied saying he wanted to buy a new 360 - as you can see we got nowhere fast

If you do that , at least buy a " used " one from a Ferrari dealer rather than broker or pvt party to build some " goodwill " towards being on real future wait list . Also, taking home a forlorn new Maser Spyder ( and it's depreciation ) now couldn't hurt to be " known " to them. Basically, you have to eat at least $100K to get on the dealer's permanent revolving "new at MSRP" gravy train for the V8 . "

Just wait, buy a used 360, drive it hard for a year, sell it then get a new 430.

You'll thank me later.

I've heard about the Shelton Ferrari 360 list here being thrown out, and having the first 2 yrs of allocations taken by customers who have bought 6-13 cars (wow!).

The 430 will be an outstanding car to say the least, but I would put money on the 600 Imola (Maranello replacement) being a better deal if 430's are being sold at $50k over sticker to those who have recently had the good fortune of being able to afford a Ferrari and can't get on a list. I haven't heard anything about the Imola list, or how it is/will be structured, and there are also rumors of a V12 spider down the road. However, these could reach a $300k sticker.

In any case, the more cars you buy from the dealer that they have a hard time selling (Maserati, remaining 456, pre-owned anything), the better your chances come of being able to get a 430 at sticker, maybe toward the latter years of its run.
