Wow, I am really touched by all the sincere good wishes....what a great forum and a great bunch of car nuts ! As my wife once said "there really are more car nuts like you out there !" Thanks for helping to expose that !

To answer some specifics that were asked :

There is very little turbo lag...the small IHI Japanese turbos spool very quickly and that is what gives the car the knife edge performance....if your not careful, you will swap ends quickly if you decide to get on boost at the wrong time.

The insurance premium was shocking to me, and not because it was high. The fellow I bought it from told me he paid 1k a year from Hagerty's. I got a quote from Liberty Mutual (who have my home ins, and other vehicles) and got a quote for full replacement value at $1083 a year ! I have no explanation for that...

The current market for F40's is roughly as follows ;

1990-1991 with >10k miles 300-325k
1990 -1991 with <5k miles 315-350k
1992 with >5000 miles 350k+
1992 <1500 miles 375-400+

OH, by the way. The car and garage both look amazing. This car is a much better investment than the CGT and timeless. That is what is precipitating all the oohs and ahhs..

Thanks DEETZ ! I had thought about a CS or a F430, but have gotten a bit tired of the depreciation game. Some F430 Spiders have switched hands at 325k, completely silly money and a downward curve from the beginning. The fact is, the F40 is something I had always eyed , and even if it were to depreciate somewhat, I could live with that knowing I don't intend to sell it. I couldn't say I would keep the F430 or CS forever....I can say that about the F40.

fact is, all the musings and pre-purchase thoughts go out the window when you drive it, completely visceral and "worth every penny" experience.

Hey great choice the F40LM is one awesome machine, a friend of mine had an F40 in Northern NJ and when I lived there we had many nice runs up the PIP, funny as it was Wide World needed to call Italy as when he had it he brought it in for a 15k service true story, he was a dentist.......someday you will have an F50 as well like the one you had in the pics a while back..enjoy the car!

Thanks Marc, appreciate the good wishes. This F40 is not the LM version. Only 6 true LM's were made by Michelloto in Italy, and they are up there in price. This has a Tubi LM exhaust which is essentially straight pipes from the cats back. (I will post a pic of the engine bay)

As far as the F50 goes, I don't think I covet that as much. interestingly, the fellow I bought this from has an F50. Said he drove it once and put it up on the rack ("what a bore")...I've heard those comments before, but when I drove the F50, i certainly didn't find the experience boring !

Great pick RufMD! In my opinion the F40 is timeless in the same tradition as the 1966 427 SC Cobra. Great lines, great power and raw.

The car will be coveted for decades to come.

Eh, really? That's only if you REALLY know your Cobras. You don't have to know your Ferraris that well to know about the F40. Just ask any teenage boy, like my son and all his friends. The F40 is the ultimate expression of a supercar. Just my lowly opinion of course.
