What tires should I get?

You may have seen my other posts about my tire situation, but here's my new situation....

I have a 997S that I use for street and track, mostly track... For the track I have the stock 19" wheels and MPSC's on them, I am going to the track this Saturday 9/20 and noticed that my rears are not going to last one more day, the fronts I already knew that, I have a street only used set of MPSC fronts that I was hoping to use with the old rear... So, since I have limited time and limited choice because of that, what should I do?

Buy a new set of rear MPSCs and use those with my 75% MPSC fronts?

Buy a new set of Hoosier R6's which would only be about $250 more than the rear only MPSC's? They don't have 305/30/19 rear, so Ifigure I would get 295/30/19 because the 315/30/19 may be too big????

To get them in a week, those are really my only two options...

I could always try to find a used set of PS2's or something... Which would not be as good obviously but I will get 18" wheels and tires after this weekend, so I can use the PS2's for the street....

These are the fronts that I would use if I bought new rear MPSC's:

I'd say if you're ready for the addiction and have a way of getting the R6's to the track give them a shot!

No way to get to the track but drive, so it seems the R6 is going to be a dream for now....

I did forget my last option... I have a really good set of P-Zero Corsas on my Gallardo in the same exact sizes that I need, however, I would have to put the Lambo up on jack stands, take the two set of wheels in get the tires taken off and put on the Porsche wheels, then have them taken off and put back on the Lambo afterwards... So that seems like a big pain and the tires will be one track day worn on my Lambo and then those will have to be replaced in the near future and more money so I may as well spend it now on the MPSC's for the Porsche....

With all due respect anyone with a Gallardo should just pony up and pick up whatever tire works best.

Back to your question, new rears, those fronts are in great condition.

I would take the tires from your Lambo, different cars, different alignmnets, and a track day. If you put the Corsa's back on the Lambo, it may drive horribly.

You obviously have some $, just get a new set MPSC. Or get a buddy to take your track wheels to the track for you and get the R6!

I have a loan on my Lambo, on my Porsche, on my daily driver Mercedes on my house and I have a ton of bills... I don't make that much money, certainly not enough to afford all that, but I figure it out somehow... If I had that much money, I would have a GT3 instead of the 997 and even more... I can afford to buy new tires but not spend $1700 on a set of track tires every 4 or 5 track days... The main reason I wanted a used set of rears to get me by this weekend is because after that I was planning on spending more money I don'[t have and get a set of 18" CCW's with new tires and if I got a new set of 19's I would be stuck with those for 4 or 5 track days which with the holidays coming up may be 6 months + from now....

So I still have the dilema... At the moment I'm leaning towards a new set of rear MPSC's and I will just use them until they are dead and then get the 18's, unless someone comes up with some used rear MPSC's or I can get some R888's to me by Friday...

If there's anyway possible to do the R6 option, that's what I would do.

Sell both the Gallardo and the 997S and buy a GT3....that will solve your tire problems, and you'll have alot more fun at the track. You'll be able buy R6's till you're blue in the face. Keep the Mercedes for DD.....problem solved. Otherwise, just buy the set of sport cups.

I swear to god that a GT3 is the answer to virtually all car related problems...

I would agree that the GT3 is in my mind the ideal car, maybe one day, until then I will just slum it in my C2S (with a few mods)

Funny Dan,

I decided not to do that, I have a pair of rear Cups coming and I should be good to go for a few more track days...
