thinking of switching to the gt3
thinking of switching to the gt3
having a hard time deciding to make the change from the turbo to gt3. Tracking is my main objective. any thougts from people who have changed.
I think that it really depends on how you like to drive. If you are the kind who lives for the corners
, likes to turn-in and put the hammer down and accelerate all the way through the corner, get the GT3. If you are any good, it will be plenty fast enough. It really is a driver's car.
On the other hand, if you are more conservative in the corners, and really only get into the throttle once the car is past the apex and set for the next straight, I think that you will be much happier with the rush of acceleration that you would get from the turbo. Just my opinion and 20 years of tracking/racing.

GT-3
I switched from an '01 turbo to a GT-3 and also primarily use it on the track. I ran the long course at Pocano and found my terminal speed on the straights about the same. I ran Summit Point and the ability to throttle steer and the suspension of a GT-3 greatly improve my times. I am to run Watkins Glen next week and look forward to it. The GT-3 is a great car, in fact outstanding. If you use the Porsche for every day, you might stay with the turbo. Otherwise I believe the GT-3 is a better enthusiasts car.
Pulled the trigger - I should have it by next Friday - I can't wait for the first Track event!

Another like mind! Mine should be here in two weeks. Had to find a car in NJ that fit my specs.
Can't wait. I have really enjoyed the turbo, but I have always been a road racer/autocrosser at heart. Even when I was a 9 year old kid in the early 70s, while the others were pretending to drive camaros, I pretended that I was a Porsche salesman driving the country in a 911 and selling Porsches. I even had brochures from the local dealer for the 914 and 911. Strange but true.

My car ran 12.2 in the 1/4 mile before the 130 lbs weight reduction. I seriously doubt that the factory 911Turbo could be that much faster than that (unless modified).
My car was pulling away from the 964T/993TT/996TT at the front straight on Watkins Glen. At the turns, I won't tell you how 3.5 degrees of negative camber on R-compound tires can walk away of practically everything

I'd bet the Turbo is faster than the GT3 from a rolling start, say from 40 mph.
