Anyone hear about this crash ?

gt3 rs was racing a gt2 -

For your info: the GT3RS driver is in jail.

This story is in fact about two race drivers, friends with each other, who were participating on that day at the 1000 kilomètres de Spa, a GT racing event. According to witnessess they were speeding because they were late to arrive at Spa...

What happened afterwards is quite terrifying.

The driver of the GT2, René Willart, was a true Porsche-nut, also founder of a well-known independent Porsche Garage in Brussels. He leaves behind him a wife and a daughter. My sincere condolances go to his family, as well as the family of his co-pilote.

The GT3RS driver, Michel Heydens, owner of both cars, who continued his way, has been arrested because of unvolontary homicide, excessive speed and driving away ('délit de fuite'). He states he did not see anything...Witnesses confirm he was driving behind the Gt2 when it started to go wrong...As stated above, it would appear that both drivers were 'very good friends'...

This is a very heavy case here in Belgium and I believe the guy will need a damned good lawyer. The days after the event the press was covering the case in newspapers and tv journals. For sure it did not not do much good to the image of Porsche enthusiasts. Like by miracle, no other people got injured in the accident (although on a Sunday morning there's quite some traffic).
