no problem w/ CGT clutch?

While the CGT beat out the Enzo, Merci, and Ford GT in the recent Robb Report "Supercar Showdown 2004" based on "which supercar is the most desireable, as measured by our visceral response to its overall prowess", they did say:

"The Porsche's clutch is diabolical. Coaxing the German supercar to off-line smoothly, without stalling, is nearly impossible - even after a driving lesson and three days of practice. On a hill, you will break a cold sweat, or the clutch, or both. Racing clutch be damned; there is no excuse for building a $440,000 road car that makes its driver look like an idiot."

Ben,

Why would you want to listen to Robb Report of all magazines, who probably didn't even drive the car 100 miles when instead you've hand at least four owners who have driven their cars more than 1000 miles telling you that it's a none issue?

Besides, how diabolical could it be if it still got first place?

Actually, I listen to everyone, including you. It just seems so odd the clutch issue is mentioned negatively in nearly every article, Danny Krieg wrote negatively about the clutch in his in Sports Car Int'l (before he dumped it for a large loss), his buddy (whose car I drove) expressed extreme displeasure with the clutch in his (before he dumped it for a huge loss), myself and Nick felt it to be annoying to say the least, yet there are many like yourself, Alex, gofastguy, etc who have found it to be no problem at all. Again, I'll find out in a few days if it's something I can get used to - which I'm betting I can. However, the value of the car as well as available supply for sale (from both cancelled orders and unhappy owners) is largely a result of this clutch issue (and ride height).

BTW Amir, what is the required break in for the CGT? TIA

Are you going to the track in Nevada with "the boys" next weekend? If so, which car are you taking?

There must have been some sort of issue with the early production cars because I just can't see how anyone could sell this car because of the clutch.

For me the biggest issue with this car so far is the TREMENDOUS amount of attention that this car gets just driving on the Freeway. You can see people weaving in and out of traffic to catch up to you. I even had one guy almost hit me because he was too busy looking at the car and started to drift into my lane.

In any case, I hope you enjoy your car and please post some pictures.

Anymore so than your Stradale? The CS seems to draw more attention than did the CGT the day we drove it.

I'd love to meet up with you guys on one of your private track day excursions if you ever have an available spot.

BTW, I too was thinking it was an early production car issue too (since most of the early production cars were *****ed about and so many of you newer production guys have been happy with it) until I read this darn Robb Report. With any luck, it's still the case and this particular car was an early production one.

I didn't think it would be that much worse than the CS but trust me it is. Because either people know what it is and they want to catch a glimpse or worse yet they don't know what it is and they drive up your tail pipes to find out.

It would be great if you could join us for a track day. I'll definitely keep you posted.

That's so odd. Most people don't have a clue about PCars. They figure most PCars to be Boxsters while they think all FCars are something exotic. I've talked to potential vendors about clear bras, tires, etc for the CGT and you'd be surprised how many think I'm talking about a GT2 or 3. That said, I think more are familiar with what it is than was the case 6 months or so ago.

Thanks re: the track day.
