GT2 vs GT3 RS?
GT2 vs GT3 RS?
Hey Guys,
I've seen websites like Jalopnik and Autoblog and such and people seem to rave about the GT3 RS over the GT2. I'm curious to know why. Isn't the GT2 faster and better on the track than a GT3 RS? Do people generally prefer the GT3 RS over a GT2? Or is it because of a price reason? I can't pin-point any exact comments, but do you guys feel the same way?
Thanks,
Steve

Hey Steve,
I have not driven either cars.
Price wise, GT2 is quite a bit more than GT3RS. Once the GT2 depreciates to the price of a new GT3 or RS, I would rather have a new GT3 or RS any day.
I will never be able to drive at the limit of any of the above cars so their performance difference is never a concern to me.

The RS is an easier car for most people to drive because it's normally aspirated. It takes a very adept driver to wringout the GT2 on a course. 95% of the public will be faster in the RS, however in the hands of a professional driver, 9 times out of 10, the pro's will be faster in the GT2 stock for stock. The GT2 is a lot easier to get into trouble, think of hitting boost mid-corner. Though the modern Turbo/GT2 cars are a lot better than the 930's on/off switch turbo's, they still can catch the unsuspecting driver with a sudden burst of power at the wrong time.
Correct, GT2 is faster that RS!
the GT3 RS is more of a driver's car than the GT2.. its basically the street version of the Porsche Cup car... so its more of a very reliable option for both track and street.
Above all it is also a Naturally Aspirated, while the GT2 is Turbo.
by the way as a comparison its like comparing the GT3 to the 911 turbo...
the Turbo is also faster than the GT3 and the GT3 RS.
but i always think about the GT3 in general as the UNDER-Dog!
always under estimated car.. its not getting the appreciation it deserve... THAT'S A FACT!

As a novice, the GT2 is a blast on the streets, haven't tracked it yet but I plan on being very conservative until I get comfortable. Modulating the power is definitely more difficult than a NA car. I got it mainly because I'm a 90-95% street driver.

I don't know that the Turbo is faster than a GT3 in 996 guise. They have similar hp:weight ratios, and while the Turbo will pull on a GT3 in a longer drag race, around a track I have to give the edge to the GT3's lower weight and better handling.
I think the GT3RS is a more collectible car long term and many people prefer NA Porsches to their turbo brothers.

As for the GT2 vs GT3 RS comparison, I have seen both on the track, and both (997.1 RS) are very fast cars. Which one is faster would depend on the skill of the driver. If it were my pick I would be all over the GT3RS before the GT2 as the boost would likely scare the crap out of me if it came on at the wrong time!
I thought about this a lot, and I have little doubt the GT2 is quicker in the right hands. Yet, I went for the GT3RS because it is easier to drive hard for an average driver, like me. I thought about it again recently and decided to get a second RS, ( a gen2) to add to my garage. I do not really drive that hard on the streets unless I am in Germany anyway, so I wanted something that would be fun for the occasional track day.
with your screen name '996GT2-2002", i figured you might know some of these questions yourself...
GT2. I have/had both, and will have both again in January with my new RS. I would fully agree that a majority of people can feel/drive better in the GT3. It's easier to deal with the NA power. There is no boost scare with the GT2 once you have driven the car some. As you begin to feel it better, it eats up the track. It's not hard to lap people right and left when driving this car average. From a value standpoint, the market destroyed the pricing of the GT2. The RS has sorta held its head above water. I think most of that is the GT3 RS is probably one of the coolest looking cars ever made. People will pay more for cool than they will speed. Look at sales of 430's as an example.
