My Track oriented Short shifter...
Hey guys,
So some while ago in the middle of this summer I started a thread in the 996 GT2 section to share a project that I had started for my newly acquired 996 GT2. Unfortunately after some problems with the car, I switched over to a 997 GT3 RS and it's been smooth sailing since then.
So since this is now a thread about my 997 GT3 RS project, I wanted to post it over here to share with you guys as well. Instead of re-typing everything, I decided to simply do a copy paste to fill you guys in up to today...

I just wanted to share a project for my 996 Guard Red GT2 that I recently purchased. But first a little about me and how this project started.
I started looking for the perfect GT2 about a year ago. I saw many cars and did a few test drives before I fell onto this one that I bought about two months ago. I have to say I’m in love. Before this I had an E30 M3 that had been turned into a full race car. When I started lapping with the Porsche, I was looking to refine the shifter a little bit (to resemble the M3) so I started reading up on short shifters here on 6speedonline.com.
What I found was that short shifters were usually not to track orientated…they were designed more to increase the fun of daily driving, but would “get in the way” for lapping. So I decided to have one made.
So basically I wanted to share with you guys what I’ve come up with. In short it will be a track orientated short shifter that will reduce throws by about 50%, increase rigidity by swapping out the entire old unit with a stainless steel full body, a side-to-side reduction in throw and a height increase.
Here is a 3D of the prototype:

The point of the shifter is to get the shift **** closer to the steering wheel while retaining throws that are slightly shorter than stock both front-to-back and side-to-side, all while increasing the precision and rigidity of the shifter to enhance the gearbox feel.

So it's finally here! Sorry for the lack of updates but I've been away on business non-stop. But now I finally have something to show you guys/girls
It's rough so don't hate on the finish lol...also the picture was taken with my blackberry so sorry for the lack of quality. The piece is incredible and uses ball bearings at all pivot points.

So today I fit the Track version. Let me tell you guys, this thing is HARD CORE. The build quality is amazing and after some minor adjustments, everything fit perfectly. I brought along my Go-Pro camera to take some footage for you guys but I'll have to edit it and post it later.
As of right now, the first one is excellent. The shifter is closer to the wheel, and the throws are ridiculously short. It's nice when driving around the city, but it REALLY shines when you start to throw the car around and really start going up and down through the gears aggressively. It's a blast to drive coming on and off exists and on ramps...I can't wait to get it on the track to give it everything it was made for.
There are still a few adjustments to be made, but overall this is the best modification I have done to a car EVER; hands down, no competition.
For now, I'll leave you guys with a 3 pictures from a quick photoshoot I did with the car!

This is the Stock shifter BTW.

Right now I'm running it with no center console for testing purposes, but will have a shift boot and shift **** in the end.

More updates and videos to come!
I'll keep everyone posted

Sorry for the delay everyone....finally got around to editing a chunk of the video of the shifter in my car. Keep in mind this was during testing so the center console was not installed

Wow that looks great! Who makes it?
Also the reason for raising the shift **** is to bring the shift **** closer to the steering wheel to eliminate the time and distance that your hand has to travel from the steering wheel to the shift **** to shift. Less time spent moving from the wheel to the shifter, means more time with both hands on the wheel, which means more car control.

cool stuff. Very similar in terms of idea. I see a lot of you guys are running the gt3 cup cables...what exactly are the improvements from the stock 997 gt3rs cables?
no plastic
smother and more direct shifts
no brainer
had them in my 6-3 and now in my .1 RS
even if you don't swap the shifter they are worth it
all future porsches - cup cables and guard LSD before I even take delivery
