7 .1TT vs 7 .1GT3

I have been looking for a 997.1TT for the last few months for a weekend car. No past Porsche ownership (current weekend car 02 M5). After reading the GT3 forum many convincing arguments have been made. This would not be a track car (planning on an older M3 to learn to drive in a less aggressive machine). Looking for a CPO'd car in the low $80's - so would folks here go for a .1TT or .1GT3? Like the idea of the TT power but like the sound and possible feel of the GT3. After spending this much won't likely be doing any mods. I really like the idea of a.2GT3 but that is an extra $20k that I can't justify (originally started looking for an S originally). Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I'm a Turbo guy so I'm gonna say get the TT. Where the TT shines is it's every day drivability, but for weekends only get the GT3. Another thought would be an older Turbo like the 993TT or the 964T, that would be the best of both worlds.

Since you're not going to be tracking the car I'm going to say go with the turbo. Ride isn't as harsh, AWD if that plays into your decision making at all and much more torque which is nice. Try searching the subject, its been discussed A LOT.

I've put 35k on a 997.1 TT and another 6k on a 997.2 RS. TT is much more usable on a year round basis and either the way it comes out of the box or with a few small mods is a great car. Mine goes back to Porsche at the end of its lease in a few months and I'm really going to miss it.

Thanks everyone for the input - I drove a TT in Houston last weekend and was in process of PPI but sold pretty quickly. I have searched and read on this site for countless hours - and still am having a tough time deciding. My wife is sick of hearing about it for sure. Thanks again and may drive into Houston next weekend to drive a 7 .1 GT3 just to see the difference. Thanks again everyone.

Love my GT3, and many folks happily DD theirs. I would agree with the above comments though, TT would be much easier around town. The GT3 is just so special though, hmm. Tough to give that up.
Great dilemma. Good luck!

have owned a 996tt (drove 70000 miles) and a 997.1tt (driven 36000 miles). i still had the 997.1tt when i got my .2 gt3. wound up leaving the tt in the garage and finally sold it. i just got fed up waiting for the turbo to spool up and no good in canyons, by the time the turbo would kick in i was at the next corner, infuriating. with the gt3, the drive is much more visceral and immediate. much more fun. for daily drive, i disagree with the rest as the gt3 is quite doable for that as well.

GT3, just do it. (.2 if you can.)

If going the GT3 route just make sure you can deal with the brake squeel or get different brakes. Car is a fine DD but my brakes make me insane

I drive mine as a DD, it is really good, after I changed to Toyo Proxes 1 tires, the rides smoothed out that it is now perfect. Also, on the brake squeal, after a drive on the first rain showers, it is practically gone, very little of it left at this time.

If you already plan to track your M3 it would not make sense to have both a M3 and a GT3, unless of course you just like track cars. The turbo is a much more friendly DD and highway cruiser. These are a couple of the reasons why I traded in my GT3 and Cayenne GTS for an '11 997 TTS. Having said that though I do miss the GT3 and I was also, until recently, "on the list" for a GT3RS April '11 build, but my dealer informed me that Porsche will probably cancel that and I am to get a "GTX" (aka GT3RS Limited Edition) instead...DARN!!! ...as they will be starting to produce those cars at about that time.

On the other hand, there might be deals out there on current GT3/GT3RS's as the dealers have been encouraged by PCNA to clear their inventory in preparation for the "GTX".
